everytime i get a shut down its because the game can't connect to bethesda servers ..i play offline for a few hours then go back on and it seems to be fine for another few hours.
I believe I have cloud sync turned off in general on my Steam. DOOM 2016 always crashed for me too but after I turned off cloud sync it was fine.
I’ll have to try doing offline play for DOOM Eternal.
Yeah I have over 150+ hours into the game. Playing it at first was perfect performance and amazing but now it’s completely unstable and never know if I’ll have a good day or not playing the game.
I even tried validating the game files and it said it was fine. I tried to do Doom Hunter Base mission, it was working perfect until I pressed a skull button and then it crashes to the desktop.
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
GeForce RTX 2060 6GB VRAM
16GB DDR4 RAM
240GB SSD
2TB HDD (Steam library on this drive)

I turned off Steam Overlay, that seems to have mitigated some of the issues I was having. I also uninstalled about 50 gigs worth of programs and clutter files on my computer and I haven't really seen any crashing lately.
Another thing I found out about my computer and the operating system is that I have a whole heap of issues with corrupted files and whatnot so I believe I will need to reinstall my OS. I am sure that will also mitigate additional issues? I am not 100% sure on that though.
This all started after the last event was announced -- I believe. The first time the game ever crashed was 4/18 (3:21am EST -- I remember the time and it's in the Event Viewer)-- I was on Taras Nabad, just fought the Archvile gang and was doing the Secret Encounter, when the game crashed. I figured I'd just been playing for hours and hours (I had) so it finally needed a break.
I also saw a Nvidia driver update, and applied it (445.87)
Everything seemed fine, so I called it a night and when I came back the next day -- DE crashed on load.
ODD.
Tried a few times more, reboot, etc etc etc
I thought maybe I pooched it with drivers, so I went back to the previous. Nope -- still dead, and then the circus of trying to fix it began...
I've tried everything and then some.
- 3 different driver versions (DDU uninstall)
- verify files
- reinstall
- moved to main SSD drive....
lalala -- everything anyone has said on here, reddit, nvidia, really. It's got to be the last update, right??
Bottom line, I can no longer even play.
It's really sad, because this game is absolutely brilliant (when it was working) -- fast, smooth, wonderful. I was running at full spec with no issues until then. None!
i7, 2080 Super, 32GB, w10
2070 Super, 16GB RAM, Win 10, Ryzen 1700x
Latest Nvidia drivers and used DDU to uninstall previous ones.
Sounds almost exactly the same. If that's not a trend. I don't know what is.
If anything that gives me hope that it -is- the game that got update-borked.
I don't usually buy games this early after release, but I -realllly- wanted DE. I guess this is part of the pain. I got Doom 2016 months after and had zero issues ever.
Sigh.
I guess I can stop pulling out my hair and just wait for magic.
