DOOM Eternal Crashing Constantly
Is anyone else having this issue?

My game crahes at super random times. It will crash upon starting the game, it will crash loading a master level, it will crash randomly while playing a mission, it will crash during, before, and after a Battlemode match, it basically crashes non-stop all the freaking time. It's almost becoming unplayable at this point for me.

Here are my computer specifications just in case:

GTX 1070Ti 8GB VRAM (driver version 442.74)
Intel i7-4790 3.6GHz
16GB DDR3 RAM
Game installed on Samsung EVO 850 250GB
Asus 144Hz Monitor (don't know the model)

Wonder if anyone can help me with this issue. I love this game, I want to keep playing it, but it is becoming a major nuisance because I can hardly play the game anymore due to the constant crashing.

[UPDATE - 4/21/2020]
------------------------------

So as I mentioned somewhere in the comments section, I uninstalled several programs on my computer. Freed up about 50 gigs worth of crap, and then performed a system file check on my computer (sfc /scannow) and it found a ton of corrupted files nothing related to Doom Eternal obviously. I also found out that Windows update on my OS doesn't technically exist and hasn't been working since December. Don't know why. This also doesn't relate to Doom Eternal but it could. I have theories that my computer issues are spilling into Doom Eternal and I may have to end up reinstalling Windows. BUT, I turned off Steam Overlay and it has mitigated the crashing issues significantly. I have been able to play the campaign and several Battlemode matches as normal.

[UPDATE - 4/22/2020]
------------------------------

It seems that turning off Steam Overlay may have worked in mitigating the issues with the game crashing. I'll put a quote down below to show what some people have discovered and shared below in the comments:

Any luck with these settings? It is now loading into the game!

I LOVE YOU!

"You ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I'M IN!"

IT loaded right up and works like nothing else. I am now convinced the update/steam update which was supposed to help FPS/overlay screwed up my overlay/etc (BUT I did try steam stable and without overlay, etc)

This combo did it though.

I'll quote it here to hopefully help others.

DOOM ETERNAL (Library cog/wheel/Properties)

UNCHECK these:
  • [ ] Enable the Steam Overlay white in-game
  • [ ] Use Desktop Game Theatre while Steam VR is active
Set these:
  • (Forced Off) Steam Input Per-Game Setting (unless you need it I suppose? I use the Steam Controller)
  • (Forced Off) Use BPM Overlay when Steam Input is active

AHH! I feel like I tried everything, but apparently missed this combo. My weekend is now looking a lot brighter. TY! ! :D:

Same here. It worked fine at first, but now it almost always crashes either on startup or when I press spacebar to start a level. I have no idea why.

I have noticed, especially on the last 3 days, the game is becoming more and more unstable and performance is tanking hard a lot. I dont know whats happened but it was running almost perfectly during my first campaign run. The more I play it the more it seems to degenerate. I dont know why.

Disabled cloud sync??? Try playing offline then going online after....

everytime i get a shut down its because the game can't connect to bethesda servers ..i play offline for a few hours then go back on and it seems to be fine for another few hours.

@SirCumalot
I believe I have cloud sync turned off in general on my Steam. DOOM 2016 always crashed for me too but after I turned off cloud sync it was fine.
I’ll have to try doing offline play for DOOM Eternal.

@Zod the Defiler
Yeah I have over 150+ hours into the game. Playing it at first was perfect performance and amazing but now it’s completely unstable and never know if I’ll have a good day or not playing the game.

@CJones
I even tried validating the game files and it said it was fine. I tried to do Doom Hunter Base mission, it was working perfect until I pressed a skull button and then it crashes to the desktop.

check your GPU software if it has a crash log look at it after it crashes it might tell you something important

I'm not sure it called crash but I got "crash to desktop" without any error popup dialog (Like it should be, right!) right after play some Battlemode match. The game surely is buggy mess, you can see people complain A LOT of technical problems. Can't believe I've paid 90 USD for this.

This game crashes more and more frequently for me and I just now recovered from my first blue-screen caused by the game itself. It used to just quit to my desktop without any warning whatsoever but now it will freeze and shut down my system. I turned off Steam overlay but that didn't do anything.

To everyone in the chat and the comments here:
I turned off Steam Overlay, that seems to have mitigated some of the issues I was having. I also uninstalled about 50 gigs worth of programs and clutter files on my computer and I haven't really seen any crashing lately.
Another thing I found out about my computer and the operating system is that I have a whole heap of issues with corrupted files and whatnot so I believe I will need to reinstall my OS. I am sure that will also mitigate additional issues? I am not 100% sure on that though.

I played 42 hours without a single crash since I got it and then all of a sudden I can no longer launch the game. It immediately locks up at the title (right after the warnings). I usually hear the music, but it's completely dead and I have to Task Manager kill (and I can only get to that by first Alt-Tab)

This all started after the last event was announced -- I believe. The first time the game ever crashed was 4/18 (3:21am EST -- I remember the time and it's in the Event Viewer)-- I was on Taras Nabad, just fought the Archvile gang and was doing the Secret Encounter, when the game crashed. I figured I'd just been playing for hours and hours (I had) so it finally needed a break.
I also saw a Nvidia driver update, and applied it (445.87)
Everything seemed fine, so I called it a night and when I came back the next day -- DE crashed on load.
ODD.
Tried a few times more, reboot, etc etc etc
I thought maybe I pooched it with drivers, so I went back to the previous. Nope -- still dead, and then the circus of trying to fix it began...

I've tried everything and then some.
  • 3 different driver versions (DDU uninstall)
  • verify files
  • reinstall
  • moved to main SSD drive....
lalala -- everything anyone has said on here, reddit, nvidia, really.

It's got to be the last update, right??

Bottom line, I can no longer even play.

It's really sad, because this game is absolutely brilliant (when it was working) -- fast, smooth, wonderful. I was running at full spec with no issues until then. None!

Same, used to work fine, now I can't get past the title screen. I can hear the music playing, but no mouse response and have to alt-tab to close it from task manager.

2070 Super, 16GB RAM, Win 10, Ryzen 1700x

Latest Nvidia drivers and used DDU to uninstall previous ones.

Sounds almost exactly the same. If that's not a trend. I don't know what is.
If anything that gives me hope that it -is- the game that got update-borked.
I don't usually buy games this early after release, but I -realllly- wanted DE. I guess this is part of the pain. I got Doom 2016 months after and had zero issues ever.
Sigh.
I guess I can stop pulling out my hair and just wait for magic. :cozywolfensteinII:

The campaign never crashed for me, but battlemode crashes quite often (game just closes without any message and kicks me back to desktop). It usually happens when I'm searching for a match.
