I'm looking on Nexus. All I can find are skin swaps, gibs_stay 1, FOV mod. Nothing big.
there are at least 25 custom master levels + like 15 slaughter maps on Battlemode arenas
yeah, you're still playing the same levels, but they're changed so much it's almost like a new game at this point
I mean...there are more mods for DOOM 1 and 2 than any other game in the world by far. Always the same story though. "I don't like it and can't understand how someone else does"
You can't make the argument that I am seeing the game through rose-colored glasses, since I played the original Dooms 2 years ago.
(Please be respectful when debating.)
This is DOOM. Just so you know. This is how big and crazy some of the mods can get. We have reached the point of apotheosis where pretty much anything is possible in DOOM. It can be a survival horror. It can be a post apocalyptic RPG. It can be a world war 2 shooter.
Don't forget about the countless custom made campaigns. Extermination Day and Lost Civilization were awesome. Eternal doesn't even have a proper level editor.
I guess the only thing you saw is the original in 640x480.
And is there 'official' mod support for Doom 1993, as I don't see Steam Workshop integration for the version of Doom 1993 on Steam...
But even without that 'official' mod support, there are mods, even for Doom Eternal...
I don't think its even remotely fair to state that they "objectively" suck. On their own merits and in a time vaccuum they're still great games that deserve to be played and appreciated today.
They are simple games compared to what we get today. That said, the people who made them put a lot of thought and effort into building Doom1/Doom2 that enhanced their look and feel to a level that's somewhat timeless. The sound and rhythm of the weapons, movement, how demons look and feel. They feel "simple" and streamlined - even familiar - because id went the extra mile designing them.
It has aged much better than games like them have any right to, and it's because people put so much work into the design. The fact people are still creating for these games today is simply incredible.
