Personally I've tried using scroll wheel jump, and it actually works really well for bhops, but I couldn't get used to it, for too long I had SSG/Ballista on the wheel, so now I'm using a macro on X instead. In any case I was always, and still am using regular space bar jump unless I'm bhopping or performing ramp jumps.
Srs though just use whatever you find most comfortable for your preferred combos.
I've pretty much been using the same layout for 23 years now.
Yes I use spacebar and the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is for the big jumps, you'll want the spacebar for your normal jumps.
R and Q - Heavy cannon
C and Z - Rocket Launcher
Mouse Side Button - Super Shotgun
Mouse Side Button - Ballista
Tab and T - Combat Shotgun
V - Chaingun
X - Plasma Rifle
Left Alt - BFG
Caps Lock - Crucible
E - Gernade
G - Switch gernade type
Left Ctrl- Flame Belch
F - Glory Kill
Scroll Down- Chainsaw
Scroll Up - Change weapon Mod
Space - Jump
Sunk a fair few hours into my new layout now and getting the hang of it. I ended up changing jump so that I could use spacebar as well which BubonicDuck you are right about.
Nice to be part of a discussion that isn't trolling or still whining about the game haha.
