Think I agree, but it should just be replaced with a weapon agnostic grappling hook.
The Super Shotgun is basically a grappling hook with a shotgun attached. Even when it has no ammo it's one of the most powerful tools in the game.
It could be completely cannon that Doomguy has the Supershotgun in his possession when he discovers them.
At that point he had been fighting hell and his SSG is basically a mythical weapon in Hell that's known and famous by the demons. They might do some weird ♥♥♥♥ with the rest of his arsenal but I feel like the SSG is gonna remain.
i cannot for the life of me recall that doomguy had any weapons in hell. those he had, he ran out of ammo for eventually, if i remember correctly. they say more than once that he killed a titan or more with only his bare hands and the crucible. but i have never heard about the double barrel thing. and thats not to mention the fact that the double barrel in d2016 isnt the same as the double barrel in eternal.
and yeah i suppose the double barrel in eternal is a relic from john doom's past, but that makes me wonder... why don't any of the stories of him being in hell mention any guns? it's only fists and crucible that are mentioned.-
By “his past” VEGA means his time in as the leader of Night Sentinels before he got tricked by demons and put in a coffin for the first time.
Canf confirm that but I think it works chronologically. And it's an easy gap for them to fill with the writing if this is between D64 and 2016.
This would work too and I think is actually cooler.
Shotguns are relatively crude, simplistic firearms to begin with so it would be pretty easy to sell that he worked with an argent weaponsmith to design one.
I mean your point is well taken, but we can be pretty sure thanks to D2016 and DE that when he was sealed at whatever point in the sarcaphogus before 2016 he appears to have had the SSG which was taken from him and "secured" by the demons on the Cultist Base.
It's origin is still undetermined I guess but id has several options to explain that I think.
i guess Hugo has a lot of questions to answer.
