Also, knowing how fond Hugo is of Evil Dead, the premise really reminds me of Army of Darkness.

A DOOM game without a shotgun would be heresy, so I guess we are safe ^^

Think I agree, but it should just be replaced with a weapon agnostic grappling hook.

The Super Shotgun is basically a grappling hook with a shotgun attached. Even when it has no ammo it's one of the most powerful tools in the game.

it'll probably be sentinel era. with melee focus and crossbows as the only 'guns'. probably gonna be that slow and brutal stuff Hugo talked about.
What have we done to deserve this?

Edit: that said, the Sentinels when Doomguy discovers them are not a medieval people. Their civilization has medieval aesthetics, but their “crossbows” are highly advanced energy weapons, their “castles” are occasionally orbital stations and their “kingdom” spans across multiple planets connected by a network of FTL portals.

It could be completely cannon that Doomguy has the Supershotgun in his possession when he discovers them.

At that point he had been fighting hell and his SSG is basically a mythical weapon in Hell that's known and famous by the demons. They might do some weird ♥♥♥♥ with the rest of his arsenal but I feel like the SSG is gonna remain.

i know we're on the same team, but i have to ask because im genuinely curious: source?

i cannot for the life of me recall that doomguy had any weapons in hell. those he had, he ran out of ammo for eventually, if i remember correctly. they say more than once that he killed a titan or more with only his bare hands and the crucible. but i have never heard about the double barrel thing. and thats not to mention the fact that the double barrel in d2016 isnt the same as the double barrel in eternal.
Sar May 25, 2024 @ 3:49pm
Well, the SSG you find in Eternal is a “relict of Doomguy’s past” and shows signs of Argenta craftsmanship, runes and stylings. D2016 SSG is completely different, of course, a non-standard UAC weapon.

ok, i was wondering if they retconned the double barrels, but i suppose they're two different weapons entirely then.

and yeah i suppose the double barrel in eternal is a relic from john doom's past, but that makes me wonder... why don't any of the stories of him being in hell mention any guns? it's only fists and crucible that are mentioned.-

I always imagined that he did lose all his guns when he was found by Sentinels, and the SSG from Eternal is something he forged himself using Argenta technology, taking basic design from his beloved Doom 2 SSG but improving it by adding Meathook.

By “his past” VEGA means his time in as the leader of Night Sentinels before he got tricked by demons and put in a coffin for the first time.

I always just figured he kept the SSG from Doom 64 with him when he got stuck in Hell. Then 2016 had a different weapon, and his OG heavily modded/personalized SSG is what you get back in Eternal, which is basically what he would've had from 64.

Canf confirm that but I think it works chronologically. And it's an easy gap for them to fill with the writing if this is between D64 and 2016.

This would work too and I think is actually cooler.

Shotguns are relatively crude, simplistic firearms to begin with so it would be pretty easy to sell that he worked with an argent weaponsmith to design one.

ok so... he simply kept the double barrel, whether its from 64 or the "relic" in his ass, or he used it to kill demons in hell? because i assume there was no ammo in hell.

I mean your point is well taken, but we can be pretty sure thanks to D2016 and DE that when he was sealed at whatever point in the sarcaphogus before 2016 he appears to have had the SSG which was taken from him and "secured" by the demons on the Cultist Base.

It's origin is still undetermined I guess but id has several options to explain that I think.
Joker May 25, 2024 @ 4:13pm
yeha i get that. im just curious regarding if he had ammo for it during his entire time in hell, or if it were simply just a decoration because there was no ammo.

i guess Hugo has a lot of questions to answer.
