Why does doom eternal get more hate than ultrakill?
Ultrakill has a 97 percent on steam and doom eternal has a 91, with both games having over 100,000 reviews. But ultrakill is way more fast paced, has just as much platforming as eternal, just as colorful, and more demanding than eternal in quick switching weapons. You would expect the game thats less demanding to get higher reviews but I guess not. All the things I listed what they have in common are what people complain about in doom eternal, but I dont ever hear people complain about those things in ultrakill, why is that?

Cause DE is just worse on so many levels. No pun intended! ;)

Trying out Selaco tonight. Check it out.
By the looks of it it's more fun than DE ever will be.
Lots of these negatives reviews (also a Lot of the positive reviews), are from people that havent finish the game, but most of these negative reviews are people saying, "It isn't Doom, Doom 2016 better, Eternal suck just play 2016", they haven't mastered the game and quite quickly, altought i support the argument of low ammo, Eternal should have a little bit more of ammo, but they just want every Doom game to be the same as 2016, if id software did that, then most of the reviews will start being negative, and id software would probably close if that happen.

Also some of these negatives reviews (i only see them in the spanish reviews), of people saying, "why are you looking negative reviews? Buy the game before the sale ends"

Because ultrakill doesn't have a completely different predecessor, a large part of the people who complain about the game do so because they expected something like Doom 2016.

Many of these people just complain about Eternal's ideas simply for existing without elaborating on why they are bad in the first place.

Most of these people start from the idea that Eternal should be like 2016 because it's the sequel, ignoring that from the very first second, eternal intends to be its own thing with a different approach.

Most people will always expect the same thing because they don't want to feel uncomfortable; they don't want to leave their comfort zone.

Proof of this are franchises like pokemon and soul games, which tend to always be the same because thats precisely what their (((((((((fans)))))))))) want.

Because the game is about using your entire arsenal, learning to move, and managing your resources. Which is ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((artificial difficulty)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Ultrakill is also about learning to move and managing your entire arsenal. It doesnt have the resource managment part, but thats because its way more demanding with movement and managing your arsenal. In ultrakill you have to wait for your guns to reload and in eternal, you chainsaw and choose to keep using the same weapon or switch weapons when low on ammo. Both games result in forcing you to use your entire arsenal

Both are great FPS that do things very differently, i don't understand the hate either.

It's not just Doom Eternal that got more hate - Doom 2016 also got at least as much hate when it was the current Doom game.

And this is exactly the reason:

To illustrate this further, consider a few things:

Well, well over half of the reviews for 2016 currently on Steam were made after Eternal released. Prior to that, conversations like the one we're having now about Eternal were exactly the same discussions being had about 2016 being a departure from the Doom formula then. (If you don't believe me, go digging in their forums for topics like this).

They are made even more insane now that 2016 is being placed within the "Doom" template - which for these same sort of entitled, loud users was clearly not where it belonged before.

Feel free to do the math. To start - 10k of the reviews for 2016 were created in March and April 2020 - the opening 60 days of Doom Eternal's release.

Ultrakill is an amazing game and I'm glad fans have let it be it's own thing and weighed it on it's own merits. It's fair consideration that Eternal never got, and the fact it's only 6% behind it is pretty damn incredible.

because ultrakill made its intentions clear. as a original ip, it's doing what it said it would.

de also disconnects anyone that liked 2016 as it continues 10 years later leaving 2016 players high and dry.

the trailers were awesome for DE... but now you played all the good bits already... the product delivers this badly.
what remains is filler mostly.. sadly.

DE has 60k more reviews which makes a difference, plus it got review bombed during both the Denuvo multiplayer anti-cheat fiasco and people white knighting for Mick Gordon. It's frankly remarkable it's overall score remained so high in the end. Ultrakill was mostly bought by the boomer shooter audience knowing exactly what they were getting. Games like that always do great in reviews, look at Dusk and it's 97% for example, matching Half Life 2. You can't really compare AAA game ratings to niche indies.

Probably because if you have two pop-up business stalls on the side of the road and one of them is advertising kicks in the nards and the other one is advertising the latest Windows Phone then people are going two be comparing them with two different sets of metrics

^especially when you have a geriatric crowd going to both of them expecting to receive sponge baths.

Those things are fairly similar.

Precisely, but if you went to get a kick in the nards you'd rate it based on how well your nards were kicked and if you went to get a Windows phone you'd rate it on how many weeks passed before it became obsolete
