RTX3070 - failed to allocate video memory
The title pretty much says it all. I am quite sure I ran the game this year, but I can't assure the system is in the same maintenance level as it was when it worked, as I updated my GPU drivers last week.
The amount reported as total allocated size is 3074.489MiBs. The RTX3070 should have 8GBs.
Any hints? Thanks

Going into the task manager, I have a total of 0.7 out of 8.0 GBs of Dedicated GPU memory already allocated, leaving a total of 7.3GBs free. Cant really understand what is going on.

Download older drivers? Sometimes new drives can have bugs with older games.
what is your systems base ram? if it 8 gigs you might need to close some background programs, i had this problem before i upgraded to 16 gigs, you might also want to reset your computer just shutting it down puts it in a sorta of sleep mode, and will eat up ram over time , resetting your system every now and then will clear out your system's cache files.

Video memory is not the same as system memory.
I understand this but i had the same problem and message, freeing my systems ram is what fixed it for me, until i upgraded

Agree with @Supa. Regardless, I am running 32GB of System RAM, it will hardly be the issue

Does your CPU have an iGPU? If so, make sure to force the game to use the dedicated high performance GPU.

No iGPU. I am running AMD 5700X. Any other ideas? Thanks everyone

You could try resetting the game's settings, and then run the game offline (so that the settings are not being synced from the cloud).

Make a copy of this folder:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\id Software\DOOMEternal\base

and then delete the .cfg and .local files. Also try starting the game in safe mode, AFAIK that resets many settings.

https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/2542-790F-14F8-D66A#safe

Alternatively to "-safe" you can also try "+com_safemode 1" (without quotes).

Also, did you maybe previously had an AMD GPU in your system? If so, try using DDU ( https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/ ) to clean up all driver leftovers (actually, that might be a good idea in general), and then do a fresh install of the Nvidia drivers (from their website, not from Microsoft).

Deleting (renaming) the two files you mentioned in the first section of your reply did the trick, many thanks.
Not sure what happened to be honest, the most that could've happened would me trying to fool around with resolution settings when running the game under moonlight a few months ago (to match my phone's resolution) and then forgetting to set that back... if that was indeed the issue, I find the error message to be a tad misleading.
