How early is BFG in this game?

Do I need about 5-=10 hours to get to the BFG?

It's in the 7th level, Mars Core.

Around midpoint, and in the two DLCs you start with it. However, it’s weaker than in 2016 - two charges max, less damage to superheavies and ammo is fairly rare and you can no longer make demons drop it.

That is cool you start with it in the DLCs I might pick them up before the Steam sale is over.

You can also unlock a second superweapon which also uses BFG cells, The Unmaykr. It’s a rapid fire triple projectile gun that is not as spectacular as the BFG, but supposedly is more ammo efficient against single targets.

To unlock it, simply complete all the optional “Slayer Gate” arenas and get the “Slayer Keys” from them, and then you can unlock it in your Fortress.

Take note of this, OP. If you are planning to go wild with the BFG, you will probably be disappointed because there are no BFG cell drops and there are only a few ammo found in the entire game. It holds 60 BFG cells and consumes 30 cells per shot, so you can only to shots until your ammo is depleted. It insta-kills fodder and heavy demons, but only damages super-heavy demons.

I actually like this change since you cannot just rely on the BFG to solve all your demon problems, you still got to get your hands dirty.

get the BFG, complete the level, then turn on infinite ammo. or download a mod for more superweapons ammo if that exists

you find the BFG 9000 in level 7 (i think)
