Back when Doom was released, it was normal for VGA graphics cards to support only 256 colors.
I notice the same issue with animes when some movie studios think they need to adapt them into live-action films, attempting to use the same color art style, believing this will please the fans.
Someone with talent or common sense would realize that certain art styles work only for specific mediums; in a different context, it can feel alienating.
The same principle applies here.
However, this approach suits the Fortnite/console demographic of gamers who like flashy, rainbow-colored things.
It proves that the game was more intended to cater towards people who were not born when Doom came out.
And this whole approach makes Doom feel more like a joke than something scary or cool. But as we've seen in many discussions, hardcore fans often merely echo the same weak excuses fed to them by the developers, failing to think independently or critically about the decisions made.
Doom being colorful was a conscious design decision made by id.
movment is diffrent, and for me ammo and weapons menagment sucks - also wtf is with the story?
Just to correct some misinformation here as you havn't yet played the game. Eternal was designed for pc first & then console, this is evident by the fact that it runs incredibly smooth & is not locked at 60fps & has more pc features.
The game has a bit more colour because of the the ammo, it's designed so that the player can see the pickups in the fighting quickly so that you can identify it, this is also why the weapon wheel is coloured, considering the classic games also use 10 times more colour than eternal it's really weak argument to keep spamming.
Ah the fortnite argument, another weak view that has no bases. When doom has a battle royal mode, has third person view, has building & has dragonball Z characters as playable ones then you can make the comparison, but seeing as it dosn't then i'd say come up with a better argument.
Yeah it's almost like we've actually played the & know what were talking about.
Do better.
The game only had a very brief window of popularity in 2020. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3008123313
Most notably, this game has been embroiled in multiple controversies during its short shelf life -- that the leadership at Bethesda/idSoftware handled in the worst ways possible.
DOOM:Eternal is more notorious, than popular.
I'm just sharing my opinion and experience with the game, nothing more.
It seems like you're attacking me instead of addressing my arguments.
But, let's be real, if you're into the whole flashy, Fortnite-style graphics, of course, you'll defend it. Why argue, right?
Also, just because some people might like something doesn't automatically make it good. That's like saying a brand is great without knowing anything about the quality or ethics behind it. It's not about how many people agree; it's about personal taste and having an UNBIASED perspective.
Unfortunately majority of steam opinions, especially from fanatics, doesn't reflect quality.
So you're saying 99.9% of the community disagrees with me? Considering only about 1,000 people play this game daily, I'm actually fine with that. It shows I'm not just following a crowd, especially when it's such a small number.
But whether it's 1,000 players or a million, a large number of players doesn't automatically validate the quality of the game. My opinion is based on the game's merits, not its popularity.
If you really love the game, go enjoy it. Why spend time in forums trying to convince others?
People have different tastes, and that's okay. Not everyone has to like the same things.
And it's a good thing that there are voices like mine to balance out the echo chamber.
Just because someone has racked up +800 hours in a game doesn't mean their opinion is more valuable than someone with only 80 hours but with real expertise and knowledge in game design and the gaming industry. It's about quality of insight, not just quantity of playtime.
It's only about 4 people.. They're just really vocal about it. Every day on every thread.
If ya look up Steam charts and compare this to any other Doom game or really any single player game it has more players, it's the most played Doom game ever made according to Steam charts, and every single player game gets popular around release day then drops off pretty fast.
It's a bad faith argument to say low player count years after release means a single player game is bad. You play the game, most move on and play something else.
Dude you're making broad generalizations you could say all that about McDonald's french fries.
If you really don't like the game, why spend time in the forums trying to convince others? Or be specific about at least, and I still don't get how this is Fort-nighty there's blood and guts everywhere. The only bright colors are the drops just so they're easy to see from a ways away when you're moving fast.
Seen 1 valid criticism and that's when you walk off a ledge you stop and drop straight down, but you can jump and keep moving to overcome that, and I doubt it's an accident since the mechanics of this are so good. I just don't know why they did it that way.
Mostly skill issues, every single negative review I see about this game involves the facts that the game is too hard for them, IGN type ♥♥♥♥.
Too much lava 1/10.
