DOOM Eternal
Micro-stutter on all laptop RTX 40-series cards (4080/4090 etc).
So I have several Lenovo Legion new laptops, with Core i9-13900HX, 32GB DDR5, and 4080 or 4090 RTX GPUs. On all of them, nothing I can do will solve the micro-stutter/frame-time spikes in this game or Doom 2016.

Are the developers aware of this, because it makes the game really unpleasant to play, despite a locked 200fps in game.

it happens on my laptop too, i got a ryzen 9 4900hs with a rtx 2080 maxQ design, it runs smooth for 5 minutes then goes unto periodic 10 second lag spikes then goes smooth for 2 mins approx afterwards then 10 second lag again and so on, btw it was running smoothly at first but until i reach the third mission. I noticed at the task manager that CPU usage drops when the spikes happen, CPU utilization is 25-35% at smooth runs then plummets to 5-8% on lag spikes. I tried all the suggestion on this thread and none worked, i also tried setting the process of doom eternal to high priority in task manager but still no good.
I can confirm that the game is broken on laptops. Lenovo legion pro 7 with 4080/13900hx owner here... Still getting microstutters after trying all the solutions (setting game to run only on Pcores, disabled vSync in game, low vs high settings, tried lower refresh rate, different power plans, undervolts). Would be great to hear back from developers.

Yo, still playin? Try to update ur GPU manager app, mine is when i updated ASUS armoury crate the game finally ran smoothly, hope this helps!
Armory Crate is for Asus laptops though?
ez fix for you - BUY A DESKTOP WITH 13900K / REAL 4090 ROG STRIX / DDR5 RAM
and u are good

Yeah mine is a zephyrus g15 with ryzen 9 and rtx 2080 mobile gpu. It is a three year old laptop though still using until now, the default app was armoury crate, did update then poof the lagspikes were gone

I know this is a year late but I've had Lenovo Legions for a while now and had issues with micro-stuttering in so many games when I'm getting high framerates. However, the frametime graph would look normal so I knew it wasn't the GPU itself.

I finally figured out that turning off G-Sync and using V-Sync if necessary fixes the microstutter for me. I guess this is some issue with how Lenovo implements G-Sync but if you still have your Lenovo Legion this might fix the issue for you.

What an insanely specific issue. So annoying. For me it's whenever a glory kill happens the CPU graph just goes "WHOOPS". Can't get anything to fix it. Anyone else had anymore luck with this?
Alright guys there are multiple ways to solve this issue. I have a 3060 6GB laptop with Ryzen 7 6800h.

  1. First make sure that in game you’re not running out of VRAM. Best way to check is go the World Spears of DLC2, if you’re getting lower FPS than other levels that means you’re running out of VRAM. (Can also use MSI Afterburner.)
  2. Now the real fix. Make sure any custom software provided by laptop manufacturers are updated. Ideally use the highest performance settings that is offered. For eg., on ASUS it is Turbo mode. Use RTSS to put an FPS cap so you do not engage Vsync but instead your Freesync/Gsync. For example, I use 138fps cap for 144hz monitor. Do not use Nvidia control panel fps cap. It will introduce random CPU stutters. For in game settings, use Vsync with triple buffering and experiment with the asynchronous queue settings. In my case I had to turn it on. In the nvidia control panel, turn on maximum performance for power settings for only this game and threaded optimisations off only for this game. Also I use full screen mode in game.
  3. The above settings work for the recent drivers. The reason I am enabling triple buffering over other VSYNC options is that it has the least amount of stutters without any FPS cap. Once you have the FPS cap it removes the stutters completely. Only the checkpoint stutters remain which is an expected vanilla behaviour. Threaded optimisations could be placebo, but I got it running so well with a perfect green bar in the in game graph with no red spikes that I don’t want to go ahead and change it to the default behaviour.
  4. There is another fix which quite frankly is too much driver dependant but I’ll write anyways. This is the weird fix that sometimes works. Restore doom eternal settings in the Nvidia control panel. Go to msconfig by searching in the search bar. Disable any Nvidia service from running at startup. Go to services by searching and disable any Nvidia service from running at startup. Now right click on start, go to device management. Disable the Nvidia platform controller device. Start the game and you should see no stutters.

As you might have guessed the second method is the most tedious and quite frankly only works on some drivers. Like the last time this worked was back during the 522.25 or 522.30 days. I used to have more success with studio drivers.
I am using an external display connected via display port to my GPU. But yeah using the FPS cap method I get 0 stutters and finally don’t have those periodic CPU spikes. Make sure you ideally restart the game after you change graphics settings. Sometimes the VRAM allocation gets wonky otherwise. I think the problem is with Vulkan and Vsync behaviour on vanilla settings on laptops. RDR2 in Vulkan mode exhibits similar periodic stutters. Might test this method on it one day. There is also an issue with Vulkan and Laptop’s aggressive power management functions. I don’t think the game was made with that in mind because on desktop, you get perfect behaviour.
