But I suppose your problem is not with difficulty (which is modular), but the overall design of combat encounters. And I would say that for me ancient gods was a step in a wrong direction, with addition of annoying and obnoxious mechanics (not necessarily difficult, just tedious to deal with), so I can see why you would struggle with them.
Marauders are a gimmick one-dimensional enemy, that can be annoying to deal with, so I understand if they feel frustrating in general.
All I can say is, just adjust the difficulty, and beat particular frustrating parts with cheats or on even lower difficulty.
I totally understand where you are coming from.
It has been said that if one does not enjoy a particular game, it simply isn't for them. However, imagine creating a car simulation out of The Witcher and then dismissing those who find it unsuitable.
The same could be said for the recent changes made to Doom, which have deviated too far from the essence of its greatness.
This shift in the game loop was already noticeable in 2016, but with the release of Doom Eternal, it has reached new levels of divergence.
While this may cater to certain speedrunners or those who enjoy a different style of gaming or like dance dance revolution type of games, it may not be suitable for others who appreciate the traditional Doom experience.
Let us offer our applause to those who do enjoy it, but also acknowledge that it is not for everyone.
The biggest problem is too much of parkour. There were a point it was simpler to reload the checkpoint than trying again after falling as it would teleport the character further back!
Sometimes, when falling, it would teleport into another fall. The fall recovery is inconsistent.
At some point in the Ancient Gods it took me one hour to get to the codex page, simply because I could not save at the platform I am supposed to to do jump -> dash -> dash -> jump, as it would reset me back too far, where I had to go through two spinning platforms that I am supposed to time them at a correct phase and grab the wall at an awkward angle.
The game mechanics is a torture, the excessive parkour gets too old really fast. Almost all the issues could have been fixed by proper save mechanics.
I am not inclined on cheating yet (not like it would help me with parkour in a satisfying way).
Regarding marauder, this kind of enemy should have been a one off boss fight, and forgotten about, since it is gets quite old.
Maybe in couple of days I will try again and beat that stupid encounter with a SSG+BFG method that was suggested here (I already did once in the main campaign).
I got 100% completion in the main campaign, so I am not doing too bad. Just disappointed that Ancient Gods only moved the game play in worse direction.
If I wanted parkour puzzle solving I would just play Tomb Raider (last three releases I enjoyed greatly). When I completed Doom 2016, I felt that some mechanics was a bit gimmicky, I wasn't expecting Doom Eternal to have taken that gimmick to the max.
The platforming in this game is very basic. I never got lost nor had difficulty grabbing ledges. The only platforming sections I had some problems with in my first playthrough is on the last part of Exultia, and the beginning section of Urdak.
If you are not using Air Control rune, you might want to try that. It makes platforming much more easier.
I don't have much else to add to this aside from no you aren't.
Plenty of OG fans who enjoyed the original games play this game at a high level. It's not age. This game is MUCH easier than the originals once you learn the mechanics.
Also, did you by chance turn off tutorials or tips in the options? The Marauder is a mechanics check. Also, equip air control rune if you're having trouble with movement and traversal. The margin of error is more like 200-500 px, not 2.
but i love the game play so i keep coming back to the main campaign. i am going to have to finish the old gods part 2 at some point, can't put my finger on it but i keep losing interest in that one
Thats funny because I too love it and IM over 100!
Well that is what I used too scream ^^
