That's an exaggeration.
one arena from swamp level in tag1 is harder than the whole tag2
and i'm not even talking about slayer gates on holt level. the sh`ttiest move by developers was to make it a lot easier (after tag2 patch i believe). that was the most disappointing thing for me because i`ve been trying to beat it for hours, and when the gates got easier i beat it 1st try but i got no pleasure at all! don't know why did i decide to tell you this but here we are
When you compare TAG2 to TAG1 it generally doesn't hold up, but that's also because TAG1 is arguably the best officially released content in the game. All 3 levels in TAG1 are beyond incredible, with the Blood Swamps being - in my opinion - the best level in Eternal period (maybe my favorite FPS level ever). Redeeming that code so you get TAG1 is worth it alone.
TAG2 didn't really have a chance to live up to that, but it's definitely still harder content than the main campaign. I think TAG2 is a bit uneven but it's still going to rock your world coming in from the campaign. And, TAG2 gives you the World Spear ML which is probably the most insane Master Level in the game.
TAG2 is still worth playing IMO and atill a good challenge, but it feels like a decent step down after TAG1.
TAG 2 is pretty much objectively half finished. You just BONK BONK BONK with a big hammer and several new enemies that are gone and buried before they do anything interesting with them. That said, the WORST parts of Doom Eternal are still leagues ahead of what most AAA games are doing today.
This is exactly what happened to me too
Not using the Hammer and BFG made all of TAG2 a lot more challenging on Nightmare to play. The only place I used the Hammer after that was the final Dark Lord battle, as it would have been too tedious of a fight without. Though I have seen a few YouTubers beat the ending without the Hammer.
Out of all the DLC missions I didn't like the last mission of TAG2 for some reason. Something about it didn't click with me. And I've played thru all the other DLC missions multiple times on Nightmare, Just the last TAG2 mission gives me no desire to go back, even if I was going to skip the final battle.
