Haven't felt the need to keep coming back to play a game like I have with this in a long time. Even longing for some rip and tear while I'm working, calculating my next hit combos in anticipation for it. It's just a blast to play and practice at.
Remember, if you move without rhythm, you won’t attract the fireball.
And the base game's campaign is only the beginning, because we have Master Levels (in which player will be fully upgraded, but encounters are more challenging) and DLCs.
This game ROCKS.
But yeah, to build on what Marco said - I think the first rune you should take on your first playthrough is Air Control - which I've said before. This rune helps a lot with the rest of Exultia and just really helps ease you into the platforming and aerial combat that is critical to master in this game.
The game is geared toward a niche handful of die hard try-hards, which is antithetical to the franchise whose namesake it stole. It has suffered a deservedly short lifespan because of this.
The rapid decline in both sales & popularity showcases that.
Interest in the DLC was practically nonexistent.
DOOM:Eternal's dwindling player pool isn't going to get any larger -- sorry to break that to OP.
That's MMO speak for "I'm pissed at people that're good at the game."
It's not shilling if ya like a thing..
It seems plenty popular to me. Any single player game fades with time. It's normal. And the DLC was some of the best I ever played. It's almost as much content as the main game.
Definitely pick it up if it's on sale, but I would go so far as to say it's worth full price
But man Icon of Sin was a buggy mess...felt like I had very little control over doom guy the entire battle and it highlighted how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and laggy the Crucible was.
Otherwise all the battles up to him were top notch...games great the bosses suck...cept Doom Slayer..that was alright.
As it was, the thin veneer of faux-quality wore off after 2 playthroughs of chasing skins and any content resembling the classic motif of the property it bastardizes.
The futility of its non-dynamic, rhythm-based repetition came to the forefront in that time.
The game would have pissed me off less -- that's for sure -- if it wasn't smearing DOOM's brand through the dirt with its micromanaged malarkey.
Grats - applying the mechanics to get through Nightmare is a great feeling!
I personally like the IoS fight but the first few times for me it felt very hectic and chaotic for sure. I've seen a lot of users criticize the fact that it's more about the adds that are summoned than it is about the actual boss himself which is actually a pretty fair criticism in a way.
You get to a certain point with him that he just becomes a pushover sadly. He's pretty easy to burst down with the SSG and Precision Bolt hotswaps.
I'll try that weapon combo if I fight him again...I literally just took him out with the cannon missiles because the damage was so damn high. You can spray a full set of ammo at the very beginning of the fight then add a BFG shot to get him below half health. Run and grab the orb if you got merked in the process. I guess hot swapping would've been good for when I ran out of ammo...but that thing absolutely demolishes him.
The biggest issue I found was his damn fist...even tho it was nowhere near you, you seemed to be thrown about the map. The Enemies spawning was wtvr...a BFG shot or two usually reset everything and wasn't a big deal, and I rarely used the BFG for Icon as I found it most helpful to just shoot in his general direction and take everything out. I can deal with the enemies...being flung straight into them without warning pissed me off.
It's whatever...it's over. I'm maxing my character now and then going onto masterlevels. Wasn't a fan of the bosses in this game really. But FPS bosses are never good.
