The Slayer has infinite re spawn and is therefor indestructible.
The other demons dont know about this because the only ones that defeat him, live a few minutes more before he comes back and finishes the job. Keeping the secret of why he can go down, temporarily and come back instantly.

according to lore the entire invasion of earth with all combined military power of all nations couldn't do literally anything to the armies of hell and Slayer not only stopped their advanced but actually decimated armies making them rout. Even the easiest difficulty in the game is still not comparable to how strong he is. He also uses guns cause he likes them, he is handicapping himself.

Yeah that's a good take on it ^

The combined might of all the Earth's military put together couldn't stand up to the forces of Hell, but they are legit afraid of the Doomslayer.
