1ups in Ultra Nightmare, Please?

It would make this an actually playable gamemode, and it would still be brutally difficult.

Sentinel Armor is really pointless, especially in the beginning which you replay most often every time you die.

There is Extralife -Mode which you can play in NIghtmare-difficulty. That´s exact ultra-nightmare with 1ups.

I know, but it lacks the prestige, that sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with conquering Ultra Nightmare.

I thought when I first played on UV, "Hey maybe UN will actually be possible to beat this time now that there are 1ups." I didn't realize till now that they're all replaced with Sentinel Armor in UN, so you're stuck with just 1 saving throw for the whole game.

So what would be the difference between extra life and UN then? If you can't beat it you can't beat it, you don't have to. The whole excitement of that mode comes from the fact that you are just one death away from game over.

One thing I'd find interesting would be a permadeath mode on lower difficulties, so less skilled or experienced players can feel the thrill.

That's what 1up mode is. The thrill is if you die, there are consequences. 1ups just help even the odds in case of overly hard areas where you'd likely die. It is UN for lower difficulties.

The most important thing is, that you have fun with playing. Don´t stress yourself with the UN mode. It is a mode only very few people have completed, people who must be very, very grind-resistant. And if you break down those few UN-people to these, who did every encounter and every slayer gate in their UN-Run, that amount is really tiny. UN and also Nightmare is not ment to be played by every person. Look at it as an ergometer. There are many training levels (for beginners up to top sportspersons) and not all people can do the fastest option. After months of training, yes, but not all want to make that ergometer (game) the centre of their lifes.
I tell you, how I play: I like to really cherish the levels of doom, looking at that detailed environment, knowing for what the MadPills (Arc Komplex) are good for and really doing every encounter possible, collecting, reading, mastering. But in UN-Mode I would not be the Slayer, i would be the Avoider, not taking too much risk, not doing all slayer gates, no that´s simply not my play style.
Having fun is most important, don´t let you get influenced by others, play as you like it most!

UN is just Nightmare but you have one life. If it had Extra Lives it would be identical to Extra Life Mode on Nightmare, meaning UN wouldn't have a purpose to exist.

Extra Life Mode is at its core just Ultra-Nightmare from Doom 2016 but for any difficulty level, not just Nightmare. There isn't a need imo for a separate Ultra-Nightmare and Nightmare with Lives. Of course, I seem to be in the minority here.

It's just, you don't get an achievement for beating 1up mode Nightmare, even though that is basically Ultra Nightmare. Ultra Nightmare really doesn't need to exist anymore. They should just make 1 up mode Nightmare into Ultra Nightmare, and then if you want the version with no lives, just disable that in the settings.

Just face it, you're not good enough for Ultra Nightmare. It's not meant to be an accessible difficulty mode. It's meant for the best of the best. It isn't useless. It serves a purpose, as being an ultimate challenge.

Extra-life nightmare is easy to do, it serves as preparation for UN but it's strictly different from the real thing.

So until you swallow your pride, there's nothing to discuss here. You'll get the same response.
