DOOM Eternal

DOOM Eternal

So you can upgrade your suit huh
I've beaten the game on Ultra-violence relatively easy before and now playing through it again on Nightmare, actually dying a lot this time and getting a bit tilted. Got to the Doom Hunter Base, slightly past the arena where pinkies are introduced and only now I'm learning that there are apparently suit perks? In which I already got 14 points which is enough to unlock the whole "fundamentals" portion...

Ok, as much as I wanna rant about how much I dislike perk progression and various other unneeded complications in my action games and be (possibly rightfully) made fun of for my short attention span, I just want to know one thing:

When exactly does the game stop your gameplay to teach you about suit perks same as it does with literally every other tutorial? Did I really just brainlessly skip through a menu in which you can SHORTEN THE DASH REFILL in TWO separate playthroughs no less? Like I legit need to know how that happened, unless I was always supposed to just randomly find it in the menu that I never open.

it teaches you when you pick up the first praetor suit token in the doom fortress after the second mission

Yup, double-checked some YT playthrough, looks like you're exactly right, thanks.
Apparently I've been spamming SKIP so hard that an image of a huge perk wheel didn't even engrave in my memory at all, it even still had the tutorial messages opened when I "found" it. This is probably because I hated the hub and wanted to get out of it as soon as possible.

Feeling pretty silly now having collected all these giant coins and never even questioning what they're for...
But either way I'm happy to be able to dash more now, Nightmare difficulty suddenly makes a lot more sense.
honestly at that point you could've gone for "can't perfect perfection" milestone if you hadn't collected any sentinel crystals and praetor tokens

Skipping everything? Then you only have yourself to blame, really. Still, I don't know how you could have missed an entire tab in the same menu screen. Did you not upgrade any gun either? And it's not like this was new, upgrading your suit was a thing even in Doom 2016.
There's literally an unskippable token you must take before Cultist Base, How the heck did you miss its purpose?

Nope, no suit or gun upgrades. I mean, you already upgrade your gun modes and crystal perks and health/armor/ammo when you physically find them in the game(the kind of progression I enjoy actually), I figured that's how you do it, but instead we got perks on top of perks (which is pointless because there is pretty much always an obvious optimal progression in games like that, but that's just MO, I'm sure some people love perks) . I didn't even remember the bind for the menu because I never needed the map, definetely didn't care about the enemies codex and I assumed thats all it had.

But at least I can brag about how I beat ultra-violence with no upgrades I guess? Definitely not doing that on nightmare anytime soon.

And I never played doom 2016 past the first level tbh. Eternal is (really) dope, but the previous iteration felt kinda meh.
You might have notifications disabled, but each time you die and reload a checkpoint, the game reminds you to spend your points.
