q - ballista
e - ssg
r - rocket launcher
z - precision bolt
1 - shotgun
2 - plasma
3 - chaingun
f - melee
c - flame belch
v - chainsaw
g/mms - grenade
alt - switch grenade
ctrl - switch weapon mod
I respect those controls, but I can tell those are not for me. But I can see how they can be good.
This
Mine are
Q - SSG
E - Ballista
Z/4 - Heavy Cannon (easy access for SSG/PB, Ballista/PB, and the 4 bind is good for PB/SSG combos if you can get the muscle memory for it down)
C - Rocket Launcher (can use your thumb to hit this bind if you use the mouse wheel to jump or Spacebar can used in place of C in this instance)
1 - combat shotgun
2 - Chaingun
3 - Plasma rifle
G - BFG
V- Crucible/Hammer
X - Swap equipment
Shift - Dash
R - Swap weapon mod
F - blood punch/glory kill
My mouse has two buttons for my thumb, the forward one (mouse4) is the flame belch
rear one (Mouse 5) is for grenades, and clicking the mouse wheel is my chainsaw.
I like these controls. Seems pretty efficient in my opinion. I will try them. But, hey. I am willing to see others too.
I have a similar setup, except :
e is Melee
r is equipment launcher
q is switch grenades
m.scroll up is chainsaw
m.scroll down is Flame belch
and mod swap is set to a reprogrammed turbo button next to my LMB
E : Heavy cannon
R : Rocket Launcher
Q: Ballista
2: chaingun
3: Plasma
4: Combat Shotgun
Left Ctrl: Grenade
Z: switch grenade
F: Flame Belch
C: Chainsaw
Use/Blood Punch/GK: thumb button
SSG: other thumb button
X: BFG (Will probably completely unbind this soon)
E>R makes PB/Rocket combo easy. Just having PB on E makes combos using it a lot easier and because it's such a critical element in the fastest and best combos it should get a prime key assignment.
My biggest regret on my binds is putting SSG on my mouse thumb button, which I've been doing since 2016. It's muscle memory niw, but still feels horrible doing combos.
For what its worth, I tried using a mouse with lots of buttons for weapons (some logitech MMO mouse) and absolutely hated it. Learning to move while firing isn't hard - aiming while pressing a bunch of side buttons is. Especially once you learn how to meathook and fight in the air.
Your "muscle memory" will conflict to much with you trying to learn the new binds, its better to easy into it instead of developing new "bad habits".
1 - combat shotgun
2 - heavy rifle
3 - plasma
4 - chaingun'
5 - SSG
Z - Ballista
X - Rocket launcher
Q - Hammer/Crucible
Mouse 4 - Melee
Mouse 5 - BFG/Unmakyr
Mousewheel up/down - grenade
G - Switch grenade mod
R - Switch weapon mod
C - Flamebelch
F - Chainsaw
Shift - dash
The setup i use works great for me with PB+Rocket and PB+Ballista combos, aswell as SSG+Ballista. The only ones that feel somewhat more difficult are SSG+PB and Stickes+PB. But haven't found anything that works better for me personally. And i should probably change my grenade keybind to Ctrl - but i just got used to having it on a mouse wheel flick.
