But you cannot play or take part in online/multiplayer modes unless you sign in or make an account.
Actually I was going to ask the same question for the simple reason that Bethesda has announced that it will be retiring its launcher, so there is the possibility that a change is imminent.
Thanks this is useful information.
I reckon they are getting rid of the Bethesda launcher because since Microsoft took over, future Bethesda games will be on gamepass from day 1. Publishers would probably prefer us all to move to gampass/streaming models soon. Before too long our Bethesda accounts might get rolled into our Microsoft accounts (as what happened recently with Mojang/Minecraft accounts).
This is definitely the case.
There's a conversation to be had on whether using other digital storefronts is more cost effective than creating your own, but without financial information from each dev/pubs C-Suite strategy meetings its probably speculation at this point.
Q: Will I still need a Bethesda.net account if I no longer use the launcher after transferring to Steam?
A: Yes. Many of our games and services still rely on you to have a Bethesda.net account. This will allow you to retain access to Bethesda.net services including game mods, in-game items like skins, and access to exclusive news and updates.

Imagine asking someone "did you not read" then failing to read the correct answer.
You do not need a Bethesda.net account to play the single player campaign.
You only need a Bethesda.net account to access multiplayer/online features.
You're welcome.
i said bethesda games will still require bethesda account after bethesda launcher is shut down, as per the faq
basically, bethesda launcher shutting down changes nothing
so yeah, learn to read
No you didn't clarify anything you came in with a snarky response and failed to offer any real help or solutions. Then when someone did you felt the need to ignore the fact the topic had already been answered and ran your mouth again repeating yourself.
So yeah, learn to read.
"yes", it says it on the store page
"does this game require bethesda account after bethesda launcher retirement?"
"also yes", it says it in the faq about bethesda launcher retirement
the only one "running your mouth" is you
so, again, learn to read
it changes nothing, the game still requires a bethesda account
