DE is an easy game, game gives you fantastic OP tools to make you stay alive as long as you use these mechanics properly you will not gonna have any problems
for example: chainsaw a lot,dash and double jump,flame belch for armor,grenades,icebomb,glory kills,barrels,meathook,blood punch,weakpoints...
It's easier in my opinion.
I beated Doom Eternal casualty on Ultra-violence, while I was having problems in Doom 2016 on Hurt me plenty
Edit: that being said, I found my first run of Doom Eternal a lot more difficult than Doom 2016.
cultist base is biggest un roadblock
If we are talking nightmare and UN - I would say that 2016 is actually harder (Atleast in the first half - till you get busted stuff), and a lot harder than eternal if you go for 100% and avoid power-ups/busted runes/superweapons - which i tend to do as i feel like stuff like the BFG, Rich get richer, hologram, ect. Kinda make the game a cake walk.
Eternal and 2016 can indeed be played the same way - air mobility (with mastery), quickswitching, plasma stun-grenade - and you can play it the same way as eternal - you only really lack ways to get into air.
I know this board loves arguing about how the games are different and 2016 is easier... but i can guess that most folk played 2016 abusing every broken combo possible - while playing Eternal without all that cheese. Which is just an unfair comparison.
Seriously - try beating the last level of eternal on Nightmare without Super weapons and power-ups.
Now do the same with the last level of Doom 2016 again - without super weapons or power-ups.
2016 without abusing cheese is actually harder on Nightmare.
In general in Eternal you got so much crowd control - 2 frags, ice, remote detonation, bloodpunch. And you also got Meathook for that air time - which makes a lot of encounters trivial once you master the kit.
2016 has plasma stun bomb. And holograms. That is pretty much it when it comes to crowd control. And it is way less forgiving on NM for the simple reason that you don't have the "Survive one shot that would kill you" mechanic that Eternal has.
It's only runes like: Ammo rune, Rich Get Richer. And BFG spam - that makes 2016 so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy to most people.
I agree with this actually.
Once you embrace Eternal's loop it becomes much easier and fluid to play than 2016 was.
But I also think Eternal is afar superior game, and I still love 2016.
For the record, beating doom 2016 on Nightmare is pretty easy compared to Doom Eternal.
I think this is it - the challenge comes in learning the tools, which is intricately tied into perfecting the arenas. I think this is the beauty of having such a well equipped character. Mastering YOURSELF is the prime challenge.
The danger here is that you risk becoming good at it BECAUSE you know the arenas. Which falls apart when you play a new Master Level and suddenly you are presented with different demon placements. However, this presents yet more challenge.
