For me, 40 demons clustered up = charge in with personal shield + flame belch + blood punch × 3+ times until everything is dead/scattered.
For others its rockets, destroyer blade, grenades, chaingun... really any gun.
1. Before the change, TAG 1 was very challenging, but the pacing was exhausting. Before getting to your first major arena (which is also pretty long), you already have a lot of fights getting there.
2. After the change, the pacing is MUCH improved. The first two levels in TAG 1 are long, and by making the fights on the way to the arenas easier, the DLC doesn't feel so exhausting to go through. Before the patch, I had to break up the each level into 2-3 runs because I'm just exhausted after the big arena fights.
After the patch, TAG 1 is still challenging for beginners, but is more consistent (yet still harder) with TAG 2's pacing.
The problem with TAG 1 for people who aren't the Nightmare players is the difficulty spikes are huge.
TAG 2 is much less difficult, and the spikes are more bearable. It can still get pretty intense later on, but that's only if you choose to do the second escalation encounters. So if you're looking for a challenge, TAG 2 is definitely easier. But what I do like about it is the variety of encounters. It's more experimental with enemy waves, so some of the fights do get interesting, like being stuck in a small room full of toxic sludge with a Screecher Zombie that you can't kill while being charged by a Hell Knight. The final boss fight in tAG 2 is pretty awful however. Even after beating it, I didn't enjoy it at all.
