What's up with the DLC adding "New" enemies just so you can use the most useless weapon mods against them.
I put new between quotations because they're just reskins of an already existing enemy type.

I loved the base game and even tho the base game had similar mechanics on where it's much more efficient to use certain weapons on certain enemies, you could always brute force your way through it, like, you could use the precision bolt to destroy the Mancubus cannons or you can just ♥♥♥♥ 'em up with a Super Shotgun/Ballista/Rocket combo, this made for a more flexible, fun and an easy to learn hard to master type of gameplay.

The DLC just throw the flexibility out of the window and add enemies that are ONLY vulnerable to a certain weapon mod or a certain attack which is very frustrating and limiting and kinda not fun tbh.

Stone Imps (a normal imp reskin), Spirits (does the same job as a Buff Totem) and Blood Maykrs (Literally just Maykr Drones but can have an immunity state) serve nothing other than the game forcing you to use ♥♥♥♥♥♥, less useful and less fun mods, such as the Full Auto for the Shotgun and the Microwave Beam for the Plasma Rifle.

And I'll be completely honest, I was fine with all of it, until they introduced Stone Imps, the Full Auto for the shotgun is by far the worst and most useless mod, especially when compared to the Sticky Bombs, having to constantly switch between mods mid fights to take care of Cacodemons & Stone Imps is really really unfun and make the gameplay feel very unsmooth.

The full auto isn't the worst and most useless mod anymore, it got a good update recently.

And Microwave Beam has always been very useful, you just have to know how to use it.

I always preferred Heat Blast, being locked in animation microwaving an enemy with the Microwave Beam didn't feel really smooth for me, specially considering that if you dash a little too far the tether will just break.

After being "forced" to play around with it, I had some fun using it.

I'm not saying it's a terrible mod, def not as bad as the Full Auto, but it's def in the low tier.

For the way spirits work, the microwave mod makes sense.

Essentially, you're just dispelling them, and that forces you to channel for a few seconds while making yourself vulnerable. It's just a less obvious take on "press action to interact" with the added mechanic of ammo management added in.

Blood Maykers are probably the most restrictive of the bunch, but you can kill them with a single shot from one of the best mods/weapons in the game (PB) among many others, including sticky bombs. And stone imps are a strange addition but you can hammer, full auto or micromissile them and there's so few of them even in the DLC it's not a big deal. Honestly I don't think they're the worst thing about TAG2.

Depends on your playstyle I guess. The whole plasma gun is low tier compared to quickswitching combos. But not everyone plays that way. I get why some prefer heat blast, I used to and horde mode makes me switch more between both mods again after almost exclusively having relied on micro.

This is a result of a lazy game design, as simple as that. Considering Hugo's comments on balancing changes for the first DLC (introduced almost half a year after its release) it is clear that many aspects of it didn't get much attention at all. Presumably due to pandemic situation.

Id should never have made the changes they did to it, and the fact they reverted most of them supports that.

TAG2 was a mess, but TAG1 is exceptional.

Full auto is probably my most used mod in Horde mode. I use it for every Blitz round and high value targets. It's very good and a lot of fun now. Microwave Beam has always been good crowd control tool, the only viable against spirited enemies. It makes spirited Dreadknight and Baron a lot more manageable.

TAG2 was a mess, but TAG1 is exceptional.
The fact that they reverted them only due to a huge outcry of the majority of players who completed the DLC multiple times at that point only supports that those changes were long overdue and simply disrupted already established impression of that content. Releasing TAG1 with those changes initially would not make it any less exceptional.

Well, let's see - spirits are the only enemy that is only killable with the meme beam. 1 enemy. Let's look at the rest:
Stone imps - autoshotty, destroyer blade, micromissiles, hammer - all efficient.
Blood makyrs - stickies, ballista, PB, or hell, just stun it with meme beam to kill it with anything.
Turrets - PB, stickies, ballista with both mods.
Armoured baron - PB, ballista, stickies all break weakpoint, meme beam works well aswell.
Riot soldiers - stickies, normal grenades, rockets, remote det or just fly over their heads and blast them from air.

I agree with the re-skins. But if you want to be good at the game you got to master even the "useless" weapons. Or you are not good enough (yet?) to understand their worth.

But they aren't reskins. They function entirely different. A reskin has to function the same to count as a reskin. A different enemy is, well a different enemy. not a reskin.

For instance do you think the Armored Mancubus is a different enemy or just a reskin for the default Mancubus?

I mean, they've been doing this since Doom 1 with the Spectre pinky, then Doom 2's hell knights and even the pain elemental to an extent, then Doom 64 did it with Nightmare imps lol.

If you want a Doom game without reskins then Doom 3 is where it's at, at least IIRC.
