This game is bad
Doom 2016 was a fun shooter.

This game meanwhile, is bloated with mechanics. Ammo is limited. Glory kills are essential and forced. You must use the chainsaw to get ammo. Annoying platforming. Enemies with weaknesses that you should recall.

It's like they convoluted the game, took the flow and fun out of it. I feel weak playing it, forced to do things, conserving ammo, trying to recall what key does what. It's not how doom 2016 felt at all.

It is similar to doom 2016 in terms of exploration, which has not improved at all, as you're still going back and forth checking the map for things. It's not a fun result overall.

And before you call me "bad", I beat doom 2016 on nightmare difficulty.

There's also a complete gap between the game's events and the ending of the 2016 game. I was expecting it to pick up right where doom 2016 ended instead there's now an invasion of earth and doomguy has a spaceship? What happened in between, and, most importantly, what went wrong with this game?

i like doom eternal and i think it flows better than 2016, 2016 has snapmap though. and snapmap has a special place in my heart.

i disagree.

Sorry you didn't like it.

What I think you should do is play this with the expectation that this is a spinoff. Not a sequel. This game is really good actually, but a lot of people, myself included, have very bad first impressions because they expected it to have some resemblance of the last game. It does not.

Try Serious Sam series with S+Mouse 1 flow gameplay.

Yes, Doom 2016 was much simpler with gameplay mechanics to introduce new players. In Eternal you should git gud beyond 2016.

Don't check then, game can be completed without challenges and secrets.

Nightmare in Doom 2016 was somewhere between easy and medium in Eternal.

There's was rumors about another DLC and even prequel about events between Doom 64 and 2016, and following gap between 2016 and Eternal. We'll see.

Found the pretentious elitist. The game may be harder than 2016 but it's not in a good way. They just handicapped the player and forced them to play a certain way and do certain things.

Also "just don't do it" is a cop out excuse. Exploration should be fun and rewarding. Here it is not.

I do agree that Eternal is at least marginally harder but it's definitely not that much higher. 2016 Nightmare is a lot closer to Eternal's Ultra Violence I would say.

No. If anything this game has the potential to be many times easier than 2016. It can be difficult to reach that point, but in no way is the player handicapped. I do sympathise with your disappointment with this game but this is just false.

Nope, not at all. I'm concidering myself as seasoned first-person shooter player: enthusiastic, but not hardcore or elitist. Eternal is definitely hard and complex game, but no way it handicapped the player - it gives you all the tools to dominate and control any battle. The question is: are you ready and capable to master it? Can you enjoy this game as designed?

If you are good player and fully stocked with weapons, mods and upgrades - yes. If you start from scratch, Eternal is way harder than any Doom 2016 difficulty level.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely agree Eternal is harder as a whole. But I have about equal hours in both games (I own Eternal on Bethesda) and personally I don't think the difference is very great.

Just in terms of first levels, 2016 I would say is MUCH more difficult than Eternal actually. 45 damage fireballs from 10 imps at a time? No thanks. Hell on Earth has nothing on that imo

Nope, because the design is bad and handicaps the player. I pretty much haven't played this game in a while because I did not find it enjoyable. It just makes me want to play doom 2016. I was also looking forward to seeing the story continued just to find a massive gap between the two games.

Doom 2016 was primarily a shooter with occasional glory kills and chainsaw kills. I felt powerful in that game even on nightmare difficulty.

This game, instead of building on Doom 2016, forces you to use the chainsaw, glory kills, and numerous other mechanics that they introduced to bloat the game into the convoluted mess that it is. And FPS is almost dubious, since the emphasis is no longer on just the shooting. Especially considering the platforming.

"Eternal is at least marginally harder"
"has the potential to be many times easier"
which one is it?

The reduced ammo is a literal handicap, regardless of how you try to spin it. I've had encounters where I'm running around looking for a zombie to cut down because all my weapons are empty. In turn I am constantly cautious with my weapons, leading me to feel weak, which is NOT how these games should make you feel

Any moron can beat 2016 on nightmare. You just suck.

Fundamentally false and baseless claim. What's the stat on morons beating Doom 2016 on nightmare? And you're just a fanboy. You even put this game as your profile background.

Even if I sucked, (which i don't, my playthrough of this game is on nightmare), the game is not fun, it's convoluted, doomguy was lobotomized by the devs and threw his ammo pouches away, and I have no desire to adapt to his lobotomy.

For most, Eternal is harder.

But the game gives you tools. Flame belch, ice bomb, meat hook, etc. Proper usage will make this game a cakewalk, but it takes a lot of practice to make it happen.

The ammo situation isn't even that bad. Just chainsaw when it's off cooldown. Unless you're camping in one part of the arena (which you shouldn't be), a fodder enemy will present itself. To be perfectly honest I run out of ammo in 2016 a lot more often, even with ammo boost. Not a handicap in my book.
