Doom Eternal just "exits" (crashes) while playing
I have a monster of a computer... Ryzen 5900x (CPU temperature never over 40), RTX 3080 (always cool as well), 32 GB RAM with 3200 CL14, ROG Crosshair VIII board, NVMe's all over the place, and yet, even though I don't play often, I get a random crash in the middle of the game every now and then.

Today I fired a BFG shot in Blood Swamps, the game froze for 5-10 seconds, then exited. No error, nothing. Just exited. Like... wtf?! And this is not the first time!

Everything is updated, Windows, nVidia drivers... everything. Even the BIOS of my board is updated. What else am I supposed to do?!

Anyone else knows why and how to fix this issue? This happens every now and then, and I'm not sure what to do.

Something similar happened to me, but I didn't even get past the main menu.

This is the same behavior I am experiencing with the BFG. Fire BFG and game freezes for a few seconds before exiting without error/crash report. I'm also using a Ryzen 5900x and RTX 3080. What resolution are you playing at?

Is there a part of the game that crashes more frequently for you? SGN Master level during the large main arena with the Tyrants and Archviles is the worst culprit for me. Followed by other large open areas with many enemy spawns like Final Sin and the DLC areas. This issue is really affecting my game experience and I have no way to pinpoint the problem.

I play 4k@144Hz. No special places other than big battles and big open areas.

Seems like some memory management problems. These problems happened with me in very old games. I remember in very old games, like Freespace 2, in missions where there are too many ships, when I called reinforcements (i.e., even more ships), it would do the same.

do you have present from compute enabled in graphic settings? try on or off to see if it changes anything.

also disable geforce experience overlay if you have it enabled. vulkan doesn't always play nice with overlays.

I'll give it a shot. Also I'll try moving away from Vulkan. Let's see if that helps.

you can't move away from vulkan, it's the only api doom eternal uses.

FYI, this issue is called Crash To Desktop, or CTD for short.

Had my first crash in forever today on the "Final Sin" level in the main game. Room full of enemies, dropped a frag grenade, immediately flame-belched all within range, hit them with a freeze grenade, then unloaded a BFG blast.. game CTD'd (after about 10 seconds) right in the middle of the BFG's firing the projectile animation.

I've been having this issue with the game all throughout (70+ hours in the game, bought during the holiday sales). I think it has something to do with the stupid id tech launcher application that's constantly sending data for the bethesda.net crap. I've noticed that even after the game crashes it'll keep running and will use roughly 12% of my CPU unless I kill it through the task manager. Does anyone here know how to stop this application or is it necessary to keep the game running?

I actually have experienced a crash a few times while having used a GTX 960 and now with the GTX 1060 and was right at the beginning of the third mission for ancient gods.... unfortunately it seems that for me id launcher does not continue to run after the game is exited so weird to be honest and I got the game end of November during a sale too.

Alright. Today I tried this, and didn't help. A super-shotgun shot in a Cacodemon's face and the game froze (but this time without exiting)... this is becoming unbearable.
