If it doesn't exceed 80 then you're good
space Jun 1, 2021 @ 2:56pm
70's fine, and i assume that's under load, not idle temps.

Depends on the model, but avg is something like 83-84.
I don't know how often you clean your PC,but it might be time to bring out compressed air can and clean it all up.
Low 70s sounds fine, but it also depends on what resolution and fps are you playing (and room temp, of course).

It's an msi 2080, and I clean it often. I'm pretty sure it's my case being a mid tower. and i'm playing at 144 fps in 1440p.

yah sustaining 144 fps is sure way to make your gpu run hotter.

I'll lower it to 120 fps and see how that helps, and find a mid tower with good airflow.

One of the biggest ways to keep temps down is to ensure your case has good air flow, as well. Make sure there is a constantly supply of cool, fresh air getting into the case, and the hot air is being exhausted efficiently.

Then it looks like you're fine. But if you want to lower the temps, you might consider changing fans or adding some.
Midi towers are fine if they have good airflow, but that's case dependent, some are better than others.

This is my case, I always take the front piece off so I get better airflow.

So how many and what fans you have on it?

The thermal limit for a 2080 Super should be 83 degrees. If it reaches this point it will throttle.

70-75 is completely within the normal operating temperatures for your card. 78+ is when you miiight want to keep an eye on it or try to cool it down somehow.

No real need to limit FPS. If you're concerned about your temps then a new case COULD be in order, but you need to make sure you have proper fans for airflow. If your current setup is bad then you don't necessarily need a new case in order to make improvements, and a new case might not even solve the problem without proper fans.

What fans would you recommend?

I have 4 of these ones.

and this one.

And youve got the fans set up in a good configuration of intake and exhaust?
Front and bottom pull air in, rear and top push air out, to keep a solid and relatively direct flow going through and through.

I've been using five 120mm Arctic F12 fans in a Corsair 4000D case. They are fairly quiet if controlled and my 3060Ti rarely reaches 70 degrees when gaming. They can be purchased as part of a three or five-pack.

They aren't the pinnacle of quality though, so fewer fans of a better brand MAY net better results. You also could opt to use 140mm fans, as they perform better than 120mm ones.
