generally you should save chainsaw for fodder only as it's not very efficient to waste it on bigger demons.
Heavy demons of any kind require 3 pips to kill sometimes 3 fodder and a surplus of ammo is more valuable then 3 pips to take down one heavy
You'd think prowlers or any other heavy sub type would take just 2, but nah they are 3.
to chainsaw bigger demons you need 3 chainsaw fuel. you cant chainsaw insanely big demons like barons of hell, tyrants, archviles, doom hunters, and some others.
Go check the Codex entries for demons to know which demon falls into what class.
To OP: 1 for fodder
3 for heavy.
A meathook shot to their face is not expensive. A ballista shot plus glory kill isn't either.
Direct ballista shot + GK - 25 cells
Meathook + SSG - 2 shells
Direct Rocket + GK - 1 rocket
Blood Punch + GK - 0 (you regain the BP by performing the GK)
