But boss fights in this game are so few and far between that I don't get how it drags down the entire product for you.
yep the only boss that was meh in D16 was hell guardians, not so much the fight but I never liked the design, they don´t look hellish enough.
doom hunter and marauder in eternal were fine as boss fights and the hunter is okay also as a "normal" enemy but not so much the marauders they appear too often in the second half and are just annoying after a while.
Icon of Sin in Eternal felt like an improved variant of the original IoS fight, which is in my opinion the worst boss in the the history of Doom. So there wasn't much to work with, but it was fun a way to me, probably because it emphasized the whole "you're fighting the demon horde" dynamic the rest of the game had.
I agree that Cyberdemon in 2016 was the best between the two games, followed by the Gladiator in Eternal. But boss fights have never really been a strong suit for Doom, or id games in general.
Which is good by me, because I typically hate boss fights in games. In my general experience, rarely is what's considered a "good" boss fight anything more than a gimmicky idea or pattern that requires you to execute in accordance with some mechanic in a specific way. Usually nothing but yawns after the first couple times you clear them.
