dooms new file size is 67 gb. why

i dont own any of the ancient gods, yet my doom eternal game takes up 67 gb now. is this normal?

To be fair, I myself can't remember the last game I downloaded that required the download of unpurchased DLC. It definitely doesn't seem too common.

Interesting how they did this, but the fact that Eternal was like 47gb at launch is honestly one of the, overall, most impressive things about the game to me.

Yeah, was wild downloading this thing at launch and seeing such a smaller size. Convenient AF. The 2 DLCs did balloon the game's size by 20gb but they are like half a Doom Eternal so it's nothing shocking honestly. The game is still roughly the same size as 2016 which is pretty awesome. I expect it to surpass 70gb once we get more master levels though. Be warned OP.


That said I liked how Hitman 2 downloads worked. Hitman 2 is 149gb with all content from Hitman 1 and 2 but you can choose to install only certain maps and content, saving you disk space.

hitman 2 uses duplicate assets to make every map playable on its own, if doom eternal had done that, it would be like 500 gigs total.

hitman 2, while convenient in some cases, is a very bad example of game asset use, that's why they scrapped that for hitman 3.

Yeah, that's fair. I did read up that they shrank the file size by like 70gb in Hitman 3, they stopped the duplicate assets and used different compression techniques IIRC.
