Taras Nabad SUCKS
Playing a new run on ultra-violence and this level is kicking my ass. Constantly low on ammo, I cant even do the special encounters because I don't have enough ammo. Can't kill the archviles fast enough and getting swarmed by a dozen brute demons doing crazy damage to me. The whole game I've been doing ok, but this level is costing me all my extra lives and I've restarted it 10 times already.

Seriously thinking of turning the difficulty down from here on out. I wanted a challenge but ♥♥♥♥ this.

sounds like you need to get taras nagud.

seriously though, no shame in turning down the difficulty until you get more proficient in the game.

Just wait for the Ancient Gods :D

But back to topic.
Chainsaw as much as you can, especially the fodder, they are there for that purpose, so you can fill your stuff up.

Use your Grenades, you can do both types after another, so freeze the Arichvile and give em nades and the best of your rocket launcher, after that he goes down rather quick. Focus on him, only do something else, if you are low on Health/Armor/Ammo, than go for the fodder, use flamethrower when they are clustered, so you get alot of armor. Also, don't forget the blood punch, for alot of damage.

It can be hard, but you can do it. :)

When the Archvile is frozen it can be killed with two lock ons. If that fails because a carcass shield gets in the way or something: Well, you have to improvise. The shield is good against the flames, the microwave beam makes him stop doing his thing. Nade him.

Or just hit him with the bfg. There's a reason that so many charges are in that level.

practise more use extra lives to learn the battles
use flame belch and ice bomb on large groups of enemys at once then switch to chaingun w/ shield and blast away u can basically do this in every encounter
Use the BFG u get ammo for it in the level use it.
Use the rocket launch lock on burst spam it chain saw then repeat

Cyber mancubus can be killed with 2 lock on burst + one ballista shot

the first archvile has 3 spawn points learn them use microwave beam to stun lock the archvile

the 2nd archvile has 2
and the last one has 2

if marauders are the problem destroy all heavy demons first then focus on marauder give yourself lots of room get as much air time as possible to keep the distance don't loose sight of him
once your clear line your self up dodge his axe attack and get ready for the flash
once you see the flash ballista shot him and fire a frag grenade at the same time then switch
to ssg then ballista again

if you quick switch right u should get 3 hits in 2 with ballista 1 ssg
then line your self up again and repeat.
done.

Is this the first time you have reached Taras Nabad or just first run on UV? Spawn locations and entity count are not affected by difficulty, only enemies become more aggressive, attack more frequently and attacks deal more damage. If you have cleared this level on HMP before, you will clear it on UV too - you just have to want to win a bit more. Enemy HP is also the same - Ice Bomb with the Frostbite upgrade + 2x Lock-on kills the Archvile. I assume you have learned to handle Marauders already since you don't bring them up. Memorize the arenas which feature Archviles and keep the Ice Bomb for them at the ready. One is in the Slayer Gate also. If they finish their summon, just BFG. Or just BFG them preemptively before they can do anything, better deleting them with a BFG shot early than risking that they finish their summon so you have to BFG the summons and then kill the remaining Archvile.

For the pinkies also, if you have chaingun personal shield, put it up and dash straight at them when they charge. You can follow with a blood punch to instantly kill them and take no damage.

Key points i will give out is that the archvile has 3 spawns in the first giant arena hunt him down and ignore the hell knight and prowler.

For the second archvile room there is a bfg refill so don't hesitate to use it on him when he shows up.

The arena with the caco's, pain elementals, prowlers and spectre pinkies you can actually skip that part and go to the gate and it opens.

Why are you restarting the level? I don't get it. You have checkpoints you can reload infinite times. Also you being bad at something doesn't mean it "sucks".

Don't save up your chainsaw, there is no reason to.
When you get down to one charge (using it when you have two), you might as well immediately go for another one since it will recharge (rather quickly).

If there's a gas can somewhere, wait after it recharges before picking it up (after the area is clear, of course).

I never tried anything below nightmare but since you have to keep jumping around to not die, I cannot even dump ammo fast enough to run out before the chainsaw recharges. Running out completely would actually be an accomplishment.

I'm trying to keep my extra lives. I know I'll need them for the later levels. I have 10 extra lives right now and by the time I'm halfway through the level I'm down to 6.

I have my grenades maxed out, and I do this, but I'm getting rammed from behind by all the brutes. I try to jump dash away but they're hitting me so fast I end up losing an extra life.

This is something I was not aware of and will utilize more of. Thank you.

Yeah I beat it on HMP. Doing a second playthrough and wanted more of a challenge. Mauraders are a pain in the ass but I have improved my tactics with them.

How can you be low on ammo with infinite chainsaw?

If you are getting swarmed you are doing it wrong.
If you have a hard time killing the archviles fast, deal some damage and get the hell out of there before you get swarmed.

If you are getting trouble there at Taras Nabad . . how did you finish the rest of the game the first time? (I assume you did finish it once as you mentioned "Playing a new run on ultra-violence").

My first playthrough was at UV and my second playthrough at Nightmare and tbh, I found Nightmare to be easier than UV but that because I already knew every area and every important demon (like archviles) spawn and how to deal with each arena, also I had already mastered the plataforming and combat mechanics so it all made my second run, that I played at Nightmare, look easier than my first run at Ultraviolence.

Just keep yourself always on the move and dont stop to fight demons, at least not for more than 1s or 2s, and before going for an archvile, use the arena to lure demons somewhere far from the archvile then fly straight to the archvile at full speed (most heavy demons will not keep up to your speed and you will have your 2s, maybe even more, before more demons come at you if you was smart with your arena management).

Ah, learn to use quickswap, it will make every combat much faster.

Learn also to always use flamethrower when that is a lot of demons together, you will have armor for days.

Learn to use your meathook properly, you can get a 1s advantage with it in case you want to get an isolated archvile or other demon without being surrounded by other demons.

Learn also to always save 1 dash to dash away after you use your hook, and dont dash away back from where you came, demons will be coming straight to your direction and usually right from where you came from, so dash away from our current location and away from where you came from.

Learn that when you see you will be cornered, even if you dont want or dont think you can escape with double jump + double dash, you have:
BFG
Grenades
Shotgun Grenades
SSG hook
Rocket Launcher
Flamethrower
Freezing Grenades
Explosion Arrows

You have a lot of tools to deal with hordes of demons (different ways and different effectiveness against different classes of demons) but, all things considered, if you get cornered you either did a mistake or played the fool.

Learn the layout of the combat arenas to always get the higher ground and keep yourself flying over demons heads ... and all demons will be yours like targets in a firing range (but these targets will occasionally hit you, even more if you make a wrong move or play the fool).
