No Raytracing despite of GTX 1080 Ti
Hi at all,

I can not activate Raytracing in Doom Eternal despite of a GTX 1080 Ti, Windows 10 and DirectX 12.0. And all drivers are up to date.
Do someone know why the option for Raytracing in the game is still grey and I can not activate it? Is the graphic card not good enough?

Thanks in advance!

Hallo an alle,

well, yeah, 1080 isn't an rt-capable card.

According to the Nvidia it is.

no? do you see rtx in any of the 10xx cards? they're gtx only.

Try updating your driver. I can turn it on with my 1660ti. Although the net says you take a performance hit. Since these cards were not designed for RT

I already installed the newest driver. That's the reason I am wondering why I can not activate RTX. Maybe @cbd is right and RTX is not available in this game (maybe only for DOOM) for the graphic card 1080 Ti?! but on the other hand, NVIDIA shows the examples of RTX in Tomb Raider and Battlefield... so I am confused and have no idea.

ummm its a GTX not a RTX, GTX dont have RT cores

The reason the GTX 1080 cannot be used for ray tracing is it, sadly, wasn't built for ray tracing like the RTX (2000/3000 series) cards are. You'll need an RTX-series card to use ray tracing in most games that officially support it, including DOOM Eternal.

The game should still look impressive without ray tracing, though.

You can play Quake 2 RTX on your 1080 ti if you're fine with less than 10 fps.

Again, Raytracing has been made available by Nvidia on the series 10 cards up to the 1060 since 2019. Yes performance will be inconsistent depending on the game, but you can. OP's question was perfectly valid. It would be more constructive if people could check their info before trying to help.

What's your specs man?
I also have the same GPU but old machine.
How does the game run? Can you run it at 4K 60fps with High+ settings?

OP's question was why raytracing was not available in DOOM Eternal, which was answered in this thread by several people. Just because earlier cards can technically try to run it doesn't mean DOOM will allow one to.

:steamthis: THIS :steamthis:

I'd add that even if OP find some workaround to make RTX work, chances are the game will perform pretty badly, or will require to lower several graphical settings which would remove the purpose of adding RTX.
