Workaround for monitor switching to 60 hz
I noticed whenever I start DOOM Eternal, my monitor refresh rate switches from 144 hz to 60 hz. Disabling VSync didn't help, as that unlocks the FPS, but the monitor is still at 60 hz. Changing it in Windows also didn't help, because as soon as I switch back to the game the monitor switches back to 60 hz (I can see this in my monitor settings). I also tried other suggestions I found, including adding various launch options and changing various display settings in-game. Nothing worked and I've never seen this in any other game, including Doom 2016.

This is the only way to get it to work: As soon as the game starts and you see the intro videos, go into your monitor settings (from your physical monitor, not windows), disable FreeSync, then enable FreeSync again. Then the monitor will go to 144 hz. Only downside is I have to do this every time I start the game.

Additionally, setting the VSync to Triple Buffering seems to correctly limit the FPS to 144, and I can see the monitor has a variable refresh rate so it behaves more like FreeSync instead of VSync, which is confusing but it works perfectly!

This is with an AMD 5600 XT card and LG monitor, so YMMV, but thought I would share in the hopes that it helps someone else out with this issue.

EDIT:
Found another method. Simply turning my monitor off for about 3 seconds and then back on once you reach the main menu also worked. Saves a few clicks compared to cycling FreeSync off then on.

I have the same problem . My workaround is to close Doom, go to Windows monitor settings , switch to 144 hz and restart my PC . After that it works as it should.
This problem is is really annoying me, no other game does this.

Yeah, I noticed one time after rebooting it didn't happen. But then I rebooted and it's happening again. It's weird how it's not even consistent.

Unfortunately this didn't help in my case. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I think at least for now I'm OK with my current workaround.
