I hate the spirits.
The plasma gun mod needed to kill them is a gimmick. It is a terrible mod that should've never been in the game. Who at ID thought it was a good idea to have only one weapon kill spirits? There are NO ALTERNATIVES, NONE. I love the game but this is just ridiculous. ID needs to fix the spirit.

I can't even take them out because there's a bug preventing me from switching different mods on the plasma rifle. But seriously, why should I have to switch mods for ONE ENEMY anyways? This is an example of the bad game design in Doom Eternal; I don't know if they slashed their budget or blew their money like the GSA did in Vegas, but the results really show, and they're not good.

gosh its not even hard once you got the trick down switching is easy just do it before you make the final kill as soon as you see the spirit lock em on and keep moving if your surrounded just throw an ice bomb and maybe a blood punch and lock back on the spirit...

you suck its okay just keep trying you will get better what ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bug could it possibly be i haven't had any issues and im on my 2nd play through i havent heard of anyone not being able to switch the mods on the plasma rifle during combat...

you people need to put the pipe down and get the ♥♥♥♥ out of your basement .... because the DLC is top notch

But this doesn't apply to the spirit. The player has to use the mod on the spirit for the entire duration. But I will still use this knowledge in my gameplay.
It does actually, as the Microwave beam is the only weapon in the game that can stun and stagger posessed demons.

Beam a spirited demon ---> quickswitch to another weapon and fire ---> switch back to beam and repeat, they can't do anything. They remain staggered for a short time after you let go of the beam and you can abuse it. Literally no other weapon in the game has CC that can effect spirit demons, so it's only an advantage.

Spirit is fine as a concept, but the implementation is a flawed contrivance. Part of Hugo's deep "solution looking for a problem" approach to game design.

So the Microwave mod didn't get enough love. Let's design a monster that requires it to be defeated... okay, now no-one will use the Heat Blast mod anymore because no-one wants to be caught with their pants down facing a Spirit with the wrong mod equipped... it's what happens when you "fix" a non-issue.

The more I get used to dealing with them, the easier they get.

I've also learned that letting them possess another demon greatly diminishes the total health pool of the subsequent demon they possess, making them a lot easier to expose a second time... Because of this, a lot of the stress I have making sure it dies when it is exposed the first time is somewhat abated... Although the one in the fog possessing the arachnotron needs to die ASAP because if it goes into the doom hunter that spawns after, that's pretty much game over.

Not only that, now i take really care if i should use plasmarifle or ballista at all in case i need to kill a spirit and don't have enough plasma ammo for that. And that is a real shame, cause plasma rifle was my favourite weapon in base game, the way it popped demons to shreds.:rshocked:

And you basically locked in place for a few seconds praying to RNG.

RNG... are you just throwing things at the wall and hoping something sticks?

I mean it's already in the game and also I don't think it needs to be removed or fixed. It's more of a case of learning how to deal with the spirit while also dealing with everything else around you. I knew people were going to hate this more than the marauder but keepingit real this DLC is meant to be more difficult than the main game. It's part of the reason why I have such a hard time believing anyone could play this game and the DLC with a gamepad.

i hate the spirits too. the bullet sponge aspect is the worst part. the microwave beam is bad too in general, but to force me to use it to kill the spirit, unless i want to get rid of spirits by killing all hosts? it sucks. i dont like to be forced for my movement to come to a screeching halt. no, i will not learn how to bhop.
