When eternal was released march 20th ...half life 1&2, gabe newell, john carmack, all died that day.

im about to play Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold war with a friend and im already thinking which key is the flame belch and hope to god the shot gun has a meathook and this is only in zombies.

Of course TLOU2 is going to win. It's pretty much the video game equivalent of oscar bait. The game doesn't even have to be that great and it's still something that critics will eat up blindly.

I strictly stay away from COD games, and I blame the franchise for the downfall of modern shooters

If you want more games with a similar feel to Eternal, I'd recommend checking out games like Dusk and Ultrakill

Video games have not been impacted by COVID as much as you are implying. Doom was a good game which is why it was nominated. Just look at how obsessed you are despite the fact that you "hate" it. You are on the forums every day as if it was your job. Clearly it has influenced your life.

The only other game on the list that is any good is Ghost of Tsushima. I am way more surprised that FF7 and Hades are on the list. Hades is decent but not GOTY. If any games are only on the list because of their names it would be FF7 and TLOU2. Both are terrible in story and gameplay.

Hades is an excellent game but he slightly suffers of its roguelike structure.
Nioh 2 is basically Nioh 1.2. And Nioh always had serious issues.
Half-Life : Alyx should be in the Action/Adventure category. There is way more puzzle and horror moments than combat.
And Streets of Rage 4... is a great game. If it earns the best action award, I wouldn't be upset as it deserves it.

Half-Life is good because of the narrative elements that make it feel more immersive.

As a shooter though, there's much better. Alyx is just a vehicle to push VR; I'm sure it's a cool experience but it's impossible to compare it to any of the other games on that list in terms of the quality of its action.

Realastically speaking even, most people have forgotten about doom eternal coming out this year because of id's pisspoor post launch support, from a dlc that was delayed too long, the quality of said dlc being.... let's not mince words mixed, no new master levels in 8 months and little to no battlemode content, not everyone plays doom religously, most people played the campegian and enjoyed it and moved on, Eternal doesn't stand a snow cone chance in hell of winning any award expect maybe soundtrack....and even then that award would go to that arsehole mick gordon
