FPS dropping to single digits / memory leak?
Hi!

I have been enojying my Doom Eternal playthrough in March; due to private matters I haven't touched the game ever since - until yesterday.

For some reason, I am dropping FPS after 2-3 minutes of gameplay - they go rapidly down, straight to 1 FPS and then the game blacks out/crashes on me.

I recorded a video, before it goes to 1 and crashes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx9COPshj4A

I double checked my temps, GPU is not throttling nor hitting any power limits / what is more, the task managers shows that almost full RAM is being utilized - see the images below:

Temps:

Memory:

My rig is i9 9900k and 2080ti.
Temps are steady (62 for CPU, 70 for GPU); no throttling whatsoever.

I verified gamefiles, have the newest NVIDIA drivers, have my Win10 updated.

Previously, the game ran at a steady 144 FPS, now I cannot play it for more than 3 minutes.
It doesn't happen in any other GPU intensive games (RDR2, Control, Modern Warfare, Battlefront 2).

I am aware of the DENUVO situation in the previous version, but I guess that was resolved already and taken away from the game? This looks like a weird memory leak.

Anyone else with similar problem?

Same... seems that there's no logic to it. Happens whether my graphics are at Ultra or Low at random intervals.

I got the same problems aswell i first thought it was because of a now usb PCI e port i installed so that the input of my keyboard and mouse was causing that, but it seems like we all have that problem right now

i read somewhere else that someone had luck by unplugging and replugging the monitor back into the gpu. it works for me as well. but if i alt tab even once, the game starts dropping frames.

Just for the record, reinstalling Windows helped in my case, at that time.
And I've tried everything - from DDUing the drivers to replacing the GPU.

thanks for the info. I was about to use ddu to see if that would work, but you saved me some time

present form compute - try turning that off. worked for me.

things that have reduced this for me with a 2070S/r5-3600 on Desktop and RX5600/r7-4800H on Laptop:

1. Turn off RivaTuner and MSI after burner
2. UNINSTALL Logitech Gaming software if installed
3. Turn off steam overlay for the game
4. Close out of hwinfo64 if running
5. Turn off Nvidia Overlays or Radeon Overlays

Interesting note : on 16:9 ratios (2560x1440 / 1920x1080) I still have random FPS drops with no decernable reason. It will sometimes even freeze the render entirely, needing CTRL+alt+delete and to kill doom eternal.

on 4:3/5:4 ratios on both systems I never have an issue. 1920x1440 on the 2070s is fine and never stutters or locks up. 1024x768 85hz on a CRT never stutters or locks.

RX5600 stutters and locks or drops to below half refresh rate at 1920x1080 frequently, falling from 130ish fps to about 30-40. Running it at 1440x1080 its perfectly fine.

Both Systems are up to date, and the laptop less than 3 weeks old.

hi there, I don't know if you've solved this but if you disable present from compute in the display options it stops happening :)
