Doom Eternal not launching at all.

I have tried launching Doom Eternal a number of times, but all I get is an unresponsive idTechLauncher on my task bar. I have to use the Task Manager or reboot to get rid of this.

I have tried a number of measures to see if they would fix it, to no avail:
- rebooting PC
- verifying/reinstalling the game
- launching the game/launcher as administrator.
- update/reinstall of graphics driver (nVidia)

I am not even seeing the error screen that others are reporting, but rather only the idTechLauncher icon.

Does anyone have any advice before I look into a refund?

I found something that seems to work on my desktop, but will not on my laptop. It may because the desktop has no Intel integrated graphics (7980XE CPU) and hte laptop is an Optimus piece of crap.

When I launch DOOM Eternal and see the idTechLauncher in the system tray (game not running as expected) if I go to the installation folder and run DOOMEternalx64vk.exe as administrator the game runs and plays fine.

If I try doing that on the laptop I get the Steam error about "app running" as if the game is running even though it is not.

I was playing when the game went black and wouldn't launch anymore. Getting this same black screen everyone else seems to be getting. I was just starting a cutscene when it crashed.

I'm having this issue too. Launch the game and the idTech icon just sits there in the tray doing nothing. Tried running in admin mode, tried turning off the overlay. Going to request a refund because this is ridiculous.

I am not refunding yet because the devs could roll out an update

For my desktop, yes. For my laptop... nope. I added numerous posts in this thread and tried every idea and possible fix mentioned. At this point, I believe Bethesda is not entirely to blame and I believe the primary issue is newer versions of Windows 10 and its crappy updates. Windows 10 LTSC 2019 (v1809) with no updates and Windows 7 (with no update since around 2016) are largely issue-free and allow me to enjoy playing DOOM Eternal without having to jump through a bunch of silly hoops that I shouldn't have to.

Windows 10 being a piece of $hit is a known issue. See pages 14 and 15 in this document and it's immediately obvious that we should blame the Redmond ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for almost everything that goes wrong with a Windows 10 PC that is software-related. http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/451.48/451.48-win10-win8-win7-release-notes.pdf

If may also have something to do with the Easy Anti-Cheat filth that the next update is supposed to nix. Denuvo has been a piece of crap pretty much anywhere it has been deployed.

Mine was working fine the first day, now it won't start. Goes past the startup videos, music comes on then it sits on a black screen. Tried most of the suggestions, nothing has worked so far.

I'm having the same problem. Nvidia drivers are up to date. When i launch the game from steam after about 5 seconds nothing happens and the play button re-appears. I've tried running as admin. Tried a re-install. Tried putting an exception in windows defender. Game won't launch.

Yes, it was actually the first thing I tried before re-installing. Thank you for the response though. I just bought the game yesterday because of the steam sale. If there was some sort of update this or last week that has to be the issue. No problems running other games and I'm pretty diligent w/ windows updates and drivers.
