Melee attack, is there a point anymore?

Playing on Hurt Me Plenty. Using melee on the farm enemies would glory kill them almost instantly with two button presses, now when ammo is precious it takes close to 8 melee attacks to take down a farm enemy? Any advice since there's no Pistol that I've found in this game?

Basic melee punches just "falter" smaller demons for a second. It doesn't do enough damage to trigger glory kills, just stuns an imp or something from clawing your face. In the 2nd level you get a more powerful E ability.

If you need to glory kill, just use the heavy cannon, fodder demons will take only a few shots to stagger. If you are using the chainsaw to refill ammo like you should the ammo issue shouldn't be that big.

not sure how far you're into the game right now, but when you unlock dash you can double-dash into the fodder zombies and it opens up a glory kill very quickly

also friendly reminder chainsaw fuel regenerates up to 1 charge by itself so ammo isn't as precious as it might seem at first glance, so don't be afraid to use your chainsaw often. it comes back pretty quick.

I didn't know about the chainsaw recharging or that melee is only good for staggering now, good to know! Thank you all for reaching out
