Xbox One Controller Problem
Until the latest patch I've had no issues with my controller.
Now I start up the game, it says press A to begin, so it's recognising the pad, but none of the buttons do anything.

I've tried validating the files, reinstalling, and deleting the settings cfg, and nothing. I'm desperate and would appreciate any help!

Try Steam-Settings-Controller-General Controller Settings.

Sometimes toggling these setting correct this for me.

Tried that twice! The other problem is any config I use isn't compatible with the weapon wheel for some reason!

This isn't a game I personally have any experience with using a controller so I am afraid I will be little help beyond basic troubleshooting. Have you tried it with another game?

That's okay, I really appreciate you trying!

All other games I have work just fine with the pad!
I'd love to be able to use kb and mouse, but I'm dyspraxic. I'm only good with controllers because I grew up playing consoles (I'm in my 30s, playing from NES til now. Guess buttons being added slowly over the years worked out for me!).

Not throwing any shade your way for using a Gamepad. I for one wish more games would include full support. I have a close friend that is disabled and can not use a keyboard and mouse. I use a Gamepad a lot for certain types of games when I just want to relax on the couch.

Hope you get it working again. Maybe try the Official Forums if nothing pans out soon.

Just a quick update for anyone with a similar issue: Rebooting my PC, then restarting Steam once I had already launched it made both DOOM 2016 and Eternal work.

Who knows what bizarre thing caused this? At least there's a solution of sorts.

This isn't unique to the game in my experience. I've had to do this with other games through Steam as well. The controller profiles don't always seem to load properly... or something.

Haven't figured it out but like you said, a reboot/restart of Steam often fixes it.

Strange that it affected only the two DOOM games, though. Guess they share similar set ups for controllers?
