My backgrounds did not disappear until I did a progress-reset on the game that was in my 2nd Save Slot. I added and deleted to the slot multiple times, first, without issue.
The backgrounds have never returned -- but I haven't done another full playthrough, either.
My experience proves the intro movies skipping is not the root cause, though.
Could still be a contributing cause though.
Main thing though - has anyone timed whether turning the intro movies off actually gets you into the menu faster? In both Doom (2016) and WolfTNC, the game took exactly (as in, within half a second or so) as long to get to the main menu without intro movies or with intro movies - they are essentially just playing to cover up the load times.
I run Eternal off of a gen4 NVME drive, so about the fastest consumer level storage you can get at this point - I'll give it a test when I get home. Curious to see after the disappointing results in other idTech games.
Damn, it is faster, brought it down from 30 seconds to 14.
Kudos to id for streamlining game loading finally - it's been pretty bad since idTech 4.
