Why do people complain about ammo when we got the infinite ammo cheat?
Been browsing around to find an active community for eternal, and I noticed how divisive this game been. In particular, the ammo complaint confuses me, as you could just turn on the cheat and play however you want, difficulty included. It seems to me that people want the glory of beating a hard game, without the challenge of doing so. Idgi, game addresses most complaints I seen

Or if they step it down to an appropriate difficulty for how they want to play. The Famine Cheat is plenty doable on Too Young to Die, meaning that you don't *need* to "spam" the chainsaw.

Game forces you to use chainsaw, by design, people don't like to be forced, it's that easy. "Hey, we will give you all these fun weapons, but you can't have your favourite, go chainsaw something and watch repetitive animation." I am personally fine with the goal of it, it makes you learn all weapons and even watching how other playing can be fun now, but I do understand why one would not like it.
What this have to do with challenge? We have infinite spawning fodder and fuel regen and ammo upgrade, it's like saying people don't like marauder because they can't beat him, no, it's because their options are nullified, no blood punch, no plasma rifle, no ice bomb or crucible or bfg, no fun, just WAIT lol. It's like a lame boss fight, 5 times or more through a game, no variety, no new phases from him, no new tools for you.
As for cheat codes or difficultiy, it's the same. Lowering difficulty will not make your ammo capacity bigger, you still have to play the way designers want you to play, no free will. Why we can't play full story with cheats, what happened to slayer gates? Even after completing a game, WTF? I think they realised this too late and started to work on master levels with many tough enemies, but you can have all your tools at least.

As far as I know, you cant complete missions you havent already done with cheat codes on, but Im not 100% sure.

>waaaa I don't want to use all of my weapons
*marauder shows up*

I just think it doesn't matter how it is. People will whine either way. I've seen enough gameplay to see how bad people can be and how they then wan't to call the game bad because it didn't cater to them like 90% of the other games did.

Bingo. They decided they want to force players to play the game the way they want, and the way they want sucks to lots of people.
No, it's because people don't like learning curves, people don't like dedicating time to learning mechanics. People don't like skill-based games, no. They'd rather have everything handed to them.

I guarantee you most people who ♥♥♥♥ on this game have not even bothered to master the mechanics of the game. they want a game like DOOM 2016 where they can max ammo and spam SSG to win the game. This game requires skill, you have flame belch which generates armour, glory kill, freeze bomb which also generates HP, Blood Punch, flame hook, chainsaw, etc.

you have so many tools at your disposal which allow you to play the game properly and requires timing and skill to use in the heat of battle. No one wants to learn it though. It's also why Arena FPS died, like Quake for example. People aren't up for this kind of ♥♥♥♥, they'd rather play Call of Duty.

Since mid-development stage id Software has already pointed out multiple times that Doom Eternal is going to be a skill-based shooter. Yet people are still complaining for some reason, it was made blatant from long ago.

Excuse me? You are calling learning to use 3 buttons in a row skill? Go into arena, fire a few shots, flame a demon or two, chainsaw one, glory kill one, repeat.

Yea, that's too hard for me. I don't have the skills required to do such amazing things in game.
And you even went so far to compare that to Q3A? I... cannot...
Vathek1 Apr 23, 2020 @ 1:58pm
The max ammo capacity in this game is significantly lower than in every previous Doom title. However, it isn't particularly restrictive as fast-swapping between weapons is more or less necessary to defeat most of the game's stronger enemies.

Doom 2016 gave silly ammo when using the chainsaw, infact that weapon would just trivilize bigger enemies like baron

Also the person IS correct, because ammo only seems scarce/an issue during early game when you only have two weapons.. literally the ones who were complaining just didn't want to learn the game.

Most people expect to be able to play a new game and instantly being good at it with no skill, they were spot on in what they said.

People killed him with the crucible and the BFG. This really does seem like a situation of lack skill dictating player skill with the maurader.

From what I understand, you only lose Slayer gates, which is a challenge thing anyway. Also, you say the game gives no freedom... The only constraint is ammo, which is actually not that limited unless you stick to one gun.

With infinite ammo? That just an extra for fun. No game ever gave you everything to play around with. There was always restrictions in the game world. Cheat codes are just a kind way of doling out freedom

They killed him while he was staggered, which still requires to do the one and only necessary ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Slayer gates are optional, but makes perfect sense to train them with cheats since those are separate arenas, after completing level of course. I did not say that it has no freedom, but game punishes you for not playing like designers want to, to a point where you find lack of variety.

What you talking about? You say no game have NewGame+ mode? Also you don't really need cheats for master levels, they are quite easy, just like second half of a game, it's as close to NG+ as we can get I think.
Pigeons555 Apr 23, 2020 @ 3:36pm
I still think that everyone who complains about ammo issues in Eternal just misses spamming the literal instant kill weapon with infinite ammo that was the Gauss Cannon Siege Mode from DOOM 2016. Or just holding down M1 with the Mobile Turret and swinging the mouse around. Then they pat themselves on the back for the 'skill' they exhibited in DOOM 2016 and say that DOOM Eternal, a skill-based shooter, is way harder because surprise, you can't instantly kill strong enemies anymore and you can't just click on everything with the Super Shotgun.

Everyone loves throwing around 'being forced' to play how the developers want. The devs probably thought the game would be funner and more fast-paced/skill-based if you didn't sit in one spot and atomize everything that came your way using only two mouse buttons. But this is apparently too high of a standard for some people to meet.

Look, the ammo count is very low in DOOM Eternal and it can cause problems, I'm not denying that fact. But you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Chainsaw to get your ammo back, is it such a chore to Chainsaw something to instantly solve your ammo issue? They give you a solution to your ammo problems and people throw it back and demand an easier solution that doesn't even involve the Chainsaw? If we had enough ammo to end every fight (this is already true for most of the late game by the way), what the hell would the point of the Chainsaw be? Crucible 0.5 like in DOOM 2016? It's just people frustrated that they can't Super Shotgun/Lock-on Burst/Micro Missile/Mobile Turret their way through every fight in the game, ad infinitum.

It wouldn't surprise me if these same people are consistently dying over and over in certain fights to certain demons (probably in the early game where you are weakest) thinking, "if only I had more ammo to kill him faster, or a way to quickly replenish that ammo" then realizing the Chainsaw exists and gets mad at that fact and proceeds to complain about being forced to utilize game mechanics.
