Eternal is a cartoon, just played 2016
and graphics there is so much better

I am talking about geometry details and amount of objects
also doom 2016 is not cartoonish

why doom eternal became cartoonish in the first place? did anyone complain about doom 2016, that it was not cartoonish enough?

turning doom eternal into fortnite was a huge mistake, worst choice

regarding gameplay - doom 2016 ammo is just fine, I amd able to play with any weapon I want, without constant need to use chainsaw

2016's visuals are a massive problem for me revisiting it. The color palette is so dull and levels are frequently indistinguishable from each other, it's either gray and brown UAC base or brown and red hell most of the time with little to no personality or distinguishing features between levels. My favorite level was Vega Central Processing because of how nice it was to see literally any other color after 11 levels of same-y feeling environments. The change to more "cartoony", more colorful and varied environments is easily my favorite change they made in Eternal.

It is Cartoonish compared to 2016 but it is not Fortnite either, Eternal is basically 2016 on steroids in every single aspect, now i prefer it to be its own game than a glorified 2016 tbh, that way Eternal does not replace 2016 and is still fun to go back and play it every once in a while.

Nah, it'd have to be the original Praetor suit. Not a fan of the Slayer's redesign in Eternal.

I just don't get why you qualify the game as cartoony with all the gore going down there. Maybe you have a problem with the choice of more intense color?

doom 2016 has more geometry, more objects and more details on each object

Why in the world are you so picky? I mean i guess you can be, but jeeze sometimes you gotta learn to just eat whats in front of you and stop pushing what you dont like to the side.

feel the same. Also small tip, try loading a level in 2016 and after it finishes autosaving load advanced settings on low then if you can choose general settings ultra+anisotropic 16 + nightmare settings for textures and shadows. The process should be repeated at the start of every level, this is because i've noticed that the game doesn't always load everything correctly! You should feel the difference trust me!

I just left a comment on a post about the Nightmare difficulty on Doom Eternal and what you talk about in your post were the thoughts that went through my mind when I typed "other elements".

"After beating the campaign and master levels multiple times I got used to the flow of Nightmare and I don't think the difficulty is the issue to the my "lack of fun" but the repetitive aspect of the game paired with other elements."

Anyways, back to your post. I agree with you, but I got used to that crap.

I really like Eternal's look. Its colorful and brighter than 2016, which makes more sense since it's much less a corridor shooter than D2016 was.

2016's look worked well but it's definitely the most monochromatic Doom. I think Eternal's looks good and is aesthetically closer to the original games. Doom has always had a bit of camp and Eternal embraces that in more ways than one.

How exactly is Eternal cartoonish? Is it just the colourful ammo pickups? Playing through Eternal I really didn't notice anything being overly cartoonish. Even Urdak was fine and that was made up almost entirely of reds, yellows and whites with a few purple mixed in.

Colorful ammo, yellow glowing question marks, bright green 1 up helmet, all HUD. These are just the first that come to mind.
I would be fine if this would be an "Arcade mode" like doom 2016 had, but sadly it is the base game.

Most of this can be fixed in settings.

HUD for example becomes much less colorful if you change it to the "amber" preset.

Anmo pickups can be turned down.

The secrets and stuff... immersion breaking stuff amiright?

On launch day I checked in the settings for changing ammo color and there was none or it was not a noticeable difference, I don't remember exactly. HUD none helps. The base one is perfect for tracking ability cooldown and stuff, but it looks too cartoonish, all do.
Now even if I want I can't check the settings due to some unfortunate events that influenced me to remove the game from my pc.
