Nightmare is hard, chiefly during the first 3 levels. Getting cornered, or locked between demons is certain death here. Your knowledge of the arena, along with what spawns where, could lead to life or death situations. The game wasn't kidding when it asked for excellent reflexes, and mastery of the combat loop. I died 5 times on the last arena of the first darn level in Nightmare...after finishing UV in style. I missed my Flame belch and Dash much! Don't get me started on the number of times I died at the Cultist's.
But Nightmare is just pure agony for me constantly
But thats how it works once you master and get used to a challenge then the challenge suddenly becomes more easier to complete than before .
But on Nightmare, I run out of extra lives by ARC Complex. From then, it's abort, retry, fail until success. UN is very, very far away from me right now.
Its normal to lose all the lives in the early game, the first 4 levels are truly a nigthmare because you dont have anything you dont have the weapons to deal with some of the demons, you dont have some of the most usefull suit upgrades, gun upgrades,etc... so it truly push the "doom dance" to its fullest since you need to deal with some problematic demons but with low firepower and not only that but the levels are also made for you to fail since the devs put a lot of close encounters like that damm f******* ass ♥♥♥♥ thrash of pit in the UAC-Cultist Base , UAC-Cultist base is basically the final boss of the early game but after beating the Doom Hunter or the 4th level the game is "easier" with the exception of the buff totems sections .
All ultra-Nigthmare runs come down to be able to get through the first 4 levels ,if you manage to do it then its probably gonna be a completed UN game.
Though yeah, Cultist Base is a level that commits all to make you fail. That battle you mention is one of the most trying of the entire game. I mean, confined space, damaging floor if not having room wouldn't be bad enough, lots of pressure monsters (shield guys, Arachnotrons) then 2 Mancubi with damaging walls. Theoretically it is doable if you use the cueballs cleverly, but in the heat of a moment I just run mindlessly and fire back behind me and eventually get cornered. Don't even let me started on second secret encounter.
Yes Taras Nabad,Urdak and specially Final Sin are dangerous levels but since you already have most of the upgrades by that point it all comes down to play those levels on nigthmare till you are sure you can complete them without fail or to come with strats for some areas of a level that could be problematic for you like in the last big arena before the boss figth in Final Sin, If you shoot the BFG 1-2 times at the start then take your time to take out the marauder and finally using the crucible to take out the archville that problematic arena is reduced to a simple 1vs1 with the marauder .
And yes thats the problem with Cultist base XD we mostly run in arenas with the "heat of the moment" and then die in a stupid way or in case of that confined space by not using the cueball cleverly also thats how you win a game in UN you need to know when to stop and think about how the next arena is going to be and yes oh boi the secret encounters....you just skip those in UN dont risk a whole UN run for just some weapon upgrade points specially,as you said, that second secret encounter in Cultist base....thats just disgusting.....
In Doom 2016 you have much more ammo so you can spam the op guns much more often than in Eternal.
The Saving throw rune can be recharged in 2016 i think after you complete a level or something like that meanwhile in Doom Eternal you only have 1 try for the whole game once you use it , that rune its useless so try to use it only for the boss figths .
In 2016 you have much more berserks, quad damage, full health/armor,etc... in the whole campaing meanwhile in Eternal there are way less and are very very nerfed since they last way less and you dont get to upgrade them with praetor points.
This changes makes Doom 2016 be way easier at the late game because even with the dash, crucible and BFG ,Eternal has more things to keep track of and well some enemies just cant be ignored and upon all of this are the boss figths wich are not difficult but its easy to make a little mistake and die specially in Urdak.
But the early game in Doom Eternal is easier you get more options to deal with demons and the arenas are bigger more open and with more paths allowing you to move with ease and dodge some demons that in 2016 would for sure kill you because they got you into a corner with more ease than in Eternal.
Atleast this is how i see it
I find in Nightmare the demons move a lot quicker and shoot more/faster, you have to watch out for fodder demons a lot more.
If the demons get close they really hammer you, I find myself running away a lot.
For mancubus just destroy the cannons and you can pretty much forget about them and kill them later or trying to split wich are you focusing on in a figth (good for early game) or what you can do is get the lock upgrade for the rocket launcher and the quick lock upgrade as fast as you can so you can kill any mancubus with a single lock from the rocket launcher (good for pretty much the rest of the game)(same goes for Cyber-Mancubus but you cant destroy their cannons and they tank more damage so use the ice bomb with the upgrade so you deal more damage to him while they are frozen to kill them).
For Dread Knigths just keep your distance and gun them down as fast as you can they are easy to kill but not very forgiving if you let them roam around .
Dread Knigths are one of the demons that you have to focus first since they are good chasers well pretty much anything that flies or is fast enough to catch up to you is a must kill first (except the marauder).
To dodge them just use the dash and the air control rune wich is very very helpfull to outmaneuver any demon and upon that it allows you to just jump from the same monkeybar all the time so you never touch the ground and also the meathook is good to get away from them and give them a free hit
