DOOM 2016 plasma rifle vs DOOM Eternal plasma rifle?
I really think that the rifle from 2016 looks infinitely better than the weird throwback one in Eternal, anyone else think so?

I liked the look of Doom 2016's plasma rifle far more, but the projectiles that weapon fired looked quite pathetic. To me, the best plasma rifle in all of the Doom games was that in Doom 3--it looked like a bulky, but practical weapon.

The one in Doom Eternal is way too bulky and chunky to look like a weapon made for a normal-sized human. If anything, it looks like something designed for a vehicle turret mount, or for a member of the Emperor's own Adeptus Astartes.

The projectile animation is a lot better. Too bad they nerfed it to oblivion in this game

How is the plasma rifle nerfed? If anything, it seems stronger compared to the plasma rifles in other Doom titles because...

1. Ammo for it is very plentiful, enough that you can (and should) make it your main weapon. You couldn't do this in most stages in Doom 1, Doom 2, Doom 64, or Doom 3 (until the very end of this game, perhaps).
2. It seems to inflict much more damage per shot than Doom 2016's plasma rifle. The heat blast mod in this game is devastatingly effective compared to that in Doom 2016 which sometimes wouldn't even kill imps.
3. In damage per plasma bolt, it seems on par with its counterpart in the original Doom games, although this is hard to determine in the absence of numerical values for weapon damage and enemy health.

eternal's plasma rifle is deffo buffed, way more damage and the mods seem more useful now, not to mention you can make enemy shields go boom-boom

mastery modded heat blast damage bonus makes the gun absolutely ridic, try it

Nah, 2016 looked like an early prototype model, it wasnt that effective either. It looked kinda strange, too. In Eternal it looks effective, badass and overall fits human space forces better

I used the classic sounds pack and it was incredibly sweet

Doom 2016 rifle didn't look good for me since it didn't seem like the kind of gun that could handle the power of the plasma bullets it shot while the one from Eternal looks like it could deal alot of damage instead of being a fancy Heavy Cannon.

DOOM 2016 in general is better unless you want DOOM Souls.

SO basically if you want a game to even be a bit challenging, its Dark Souls? Great Logic

They both sound weak to me while the OG sounds better and heavy.

DOOM 2016 is generally far worse unless you don't want DOOM.

Don't care about the appearance much (although it's an improvement) but the gun sounds and IS extremely weak.

Challenge arguably is not the reason why most players buy DOOM.

To get the OG sounds, don't you have to buy the $100 deluxe edition? I wish that they had switched around the bonuses, with the pre-order giving the OG sound effects and the deluxe edition giving the DOOT skin.

If you do have the OG sound pack, I'm curious to hear about how sounds are handled for weapons that didn't exist in Doom II, i.e. the Heavy Cannon and Ballista. I'm guessing those just keep their current sound effects?

I don't have much interest in Battlemode, so having that skin for the Revenant is useless. Moreover, I don't think the Revenant is even a particularly good demon to pick in Battlemode either, based on what I've heard.
