[Bug] Saves in save folder but not in game
Today I booted the game up, and all my saves are missing from the campaign menu. Every slot just says "New Save Slot". When I go into the saves folder (\Steam\userdata\(userid)\782330\remote) I can see all my old saves are still there, but for some reason the game won't recognize them.

The only thing I can think of is that Doom Eternal crashed on startup right before this happened, but I have no idea how to get the game to see my saves. Has this happened to anyone else?

This bug is so bad I actually can't save the game at all. Whenever I close and reopen the game, any previous saves are now inaccessible and all save slots are open. I can see that the game is still saving and the saves are in the directory, and until I close the game I can return to the main menu and reopen the save file, but any time I close and reopen, all saves disappear. Has no one else seen this issue? Is it just me?

I managed to fix the issue while messing around with the steam userdata folder.

Solution:

- Fully close Steam.

- Go to your userdata folder inside your Steam folder: \userdata\<userId>\782330\remote

- Delete the "remotecache.vdf" file and the other numbered files that exist inside this folder (Do NOT remove the "remote" folder)

- Delete all the "GAME-AUTOSAVE#" folders inside your "remote" folder, or back them up first if you don't want to lose your saves (if you have any at this point) - Do NOT delete your "PROFILE" folder or you will lose all progression stats and stuff.

- Launch Steam.

- Launch Doom Eternal and the problem will be fixed. Now, if you want to restore your backed up save files, create some dummy save slots inside the game, exit it, and replace the "GAME-AUTOSAVE#" folders that have been created now with the ones you backed up earlier.

The main problem here seems to be that the "remotecache.vdf" file had some save data cached inside it that didn't correspond to the actual save data that was being saved every time I created a new game. Steam issue I guess.

Man I love Steam forums. 4 years later and your fix here worked for me. My saves got corrupted and one of them fully erased, but I managed to get two of them back as Cloud still had them. Cheers, Smooth Operator

For anyone who still can't get it to work, what I had to do, is every single time after playing, saving, and exiting the game, I had to open the "remotecache.vdf" file, and change every "syncstate" to 1, this prevents the game from crashing on launch, and it will read your save files.
