Unlocking the other armors can be done after the game and are pretty useless
This is like exactly opposite of what the others suggest, what's your reasoning?
are the outfits purely cosmetic?
If you're not playing Doomguy are you really even playing Doom? I was red Doomguy until I unlocked classic Green Doomguy. It was my first unlock in the fortress.
Yes. But there's a fun exploit/glitch involving upgrades and the Fortress of Doom. Quit and reload. Your batteries will be back and the door you opened will be sealed. This is true of any pickup (cheat codes), door unlocked, or upgrade point spent in the Fortress. Because there is no autosave in the Fortress you can only save progress by going to a mission and then things save properly. But if you quit to menu it's like you never did those things.
The same goes for weapon mods. If I'm not mistaken, you can unlock every mod solely with bots located in missions. The ones in the Fortress are mostly useful for low-priority mods if you want to get the milestone for mastering all weapons, or if you want to get a must-have mod like Arbalest on the Ballista right away.
I'm super happy someone else thinks of them as cookies.
