A solution to battlemode not working

After extensive trial and error, I have found a solution for those who are unable to find any battlemode matches. Here's a step by step guide.

1.Go to settings, select updates and security.
2. Click on check for updates. It will download and install updates you don't already have and most updates require a reboot, but if you're far behind you'll have to download and install several updates one at a time. Find something to do while this happens.
3. Do this until you finally reach the most recent update, KB4541335. You can check for this by clicking on "view update history" and then selecting "quality updates".
4. Here comes the important part. There is an optional update that you cannot download automatically through Windows Update and you will have to download manually from here http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4554364
Click on that and it'll show you a whole lot of updates. The one you need is KB4554364. Download and install that.
5. Success, battlemode should now work for you.

I cannot guarantee that this will work, but it worked for me and believe me I tried everything prior to this and none of it worked. The only thing that worked was using a VPN. But there is some existing evidence that this should work, as people who are on Windows 8 say that when they installed Windows 10 battlemode worked for them and so it looks like it's a problem related to the OS or its updates.

As for this optional update itself it purportedly only fixes an issue in the most recent update, KB4541335 wherein it fails to connect to the internet for some programs. I had issues with battlemode before installing this update so clearly that wasn't the culprit for me, but perhaps whatever it is that this optional update fixed in KB4541335 also fixed something that was present in one of the previous updates.

And so if anyone of you try this, please let it be known here so we that we know if it works for other people and thus word can spread about this solution and perhaps this may even aid Bethesda/ the developers to fix whatever's exactly causing this issue.

The link you provided leads to a Windows 10 update, is there something for Windows 8?

The people who had battlemode troubles on Windows 8 said they solved it by simply moving to Windows 10. That's all I've seen about it.

This did not work for me.

I updated my computer just now, restarted it. Saw KB4541335 wasn't ever installed, as its 'optional'. Installed that. Restarted. Clicked the link provided and downloaded/installed the first option (they are all KB4554364). More specifically, I downloaded/installed:

2020-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4554364)

That is 358 MB. I have Windows 10 64 bit and my previous updates listed 1909 version, so I believe I got the right one? Spammed quick 'quick play' and received the same error. Also tried slayer/demon, but no avail.

Strange, well have you made sure you've forwarded your ports and made the game an exception for your firewall/turned it off at least?

Forwarded ports, no. I have not heard of or how to do that.

I have disabled my firewall/virus scanners, but same thing. I even used a VPN (though a free one and super slow), but same issue.

It is essential that you forward your ports, it's easy to do and a google search will show you how to do it. As for the ports you need to forward, you can find them here https://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/50139/~/what-do-i-do-if-doom-eternal-on-pc-is-having-connection-issues%3F

Not all VPNs work consistently for Battlemode, the one I had consistent results with is called ProtonVPN. You can get a free trial for it that lasts 7 days.

For me, whenever I ready up in battle mode, it gets stuck on 'Launching Game' and I never get into a lobby
