Sentinel armour easy mode? Really?
When I was a kid we actually had to beat our video games. None of this "hey you died a few times here's an easy mode" BS. I accidentally turned it on for the first stage of a boss and now I'm going to have to restart the whole level to repeat the first stage of the boss fight.

p.s. loving the game otherwise.

You can turn it off in the settings mate ^^ I agree with your view though. At least it isn't a forced feature.

Good to know it's in the menu... wish they made this more clear when it pops up.

It's ridiculous that it offers it after like 3 deaths lol

lol yeah.. I actually thought the game was asking me if I wanted to go back and start from the 1st stage of the boss.

what does it even do?

How else would journalists beat the game?

Makes you more durable I think.

You don't need to start the whole level again. You can just die again and load the checkpoint without sentinel armor.

lmao I made the same mistake as OP. I didn't realize it would deactivate on death.

Adaptive difficulty has been a feature of lots of games since at least the 80s. Most of the time it doesn't tell you it's happening. Maybe all those games you beat as a kid were taking it easy on you and you never even knew.

List of games from the 80s?
I think Sentinel Armor is a good addition, since there's a lot of parts I can see tripping up players who are inexperienced with FPS games but picked Eternal up because it looked cool. There's nothing wrong with giving players the option to make it a bit easier on themselves.

I know SNATCHER on the MSX had it, that was '88. I played a pong-type air hockey game released in the 80s that scaled difficulty, but I don't remember the name.

Edit: Some cursory research turns up Astrosmash from 1981.

Snatcher? How the hell would that work lol. Tvtropes gave me this:

[Snatcher had a shooting range which could be accessed for fun. If you get consistently high scores on the shooting range, the game amps up the challenge of the plot relevant shooting set-pieces. It's advised that you do intentionally terrible on the shooting range, or finishing the game may require inhuman reflexes. ]

Similarly, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head was Mario Kart 64. But also in that game, the CPU becomes better if you play better. Like I recall getting first in the first race of a grand prix led to smart ai for the rest of it.
