Death Animations
Hi all,

Just want to ask, is there still unique death animations for player deaths in this game other than the lava one? Thanks.

Nope. They're largely gone, it's mostly just the player falling to the ground or exploding in a gory mess.

Well, unless you're playing I'd guess Nightmare or Ultra Nightmare, you wont really "die". If you've got plenty of lives stocked up you're pretty much good to go for alot of the missions.

As Snow said, they're largely gone. Those times I've died where just me falling over into the ground then a black screen appeared asking to either quit or restart.

Haven't seen a single one, which is kind of a shame. While it wasn't very frequent, it did add some flavour to individual demons, be it Cacodemon chewing through your torso or Hell Knight stomping your head in. You failed when fighting deadly monsters and they made you pay for it in a gruesome way.

Here, it's more of a "oh, he's dead, okay, back to doing nothing."

good thing they didn't add a death animation...timing is everything in DOOM. Who wants to stare at your own death for about 3-5 sec all the time? Then if you go in Battle mode you do the same thing 3-5 sec + wait for res 10sec right XD. You see the timing...lol.

It's not that they didn't "add" animations - they removed what was already there in the previous game, only leaving the lava thumbs up for some reason.

And if it was such a huge loss of time - add a toggle in options, problem solved.

Yeah I miss these too :/. gave each of the demons a lot of personality back in 2016.

Now it just feels like you either suddenly turn to mush or just "doomguy fall down", considering how much they amped everything else up this just seems oddly boring and a step-down.

Maybe there was such a greater amount of enemy variety they didn't want to animate them all, or they anticipated a lot more player deaths and thought the time locked in these animations would just frustrate the player- but I liked them, and it made a better impression of what killed me.
