Why button for grenade type switch instead of "fire ice grenade" button?
Since there are only two types of grenades. Doesn't make sense allocate one button for grenade fire and another one for switch if you could allocate both of them to fire a grenade.

Probably just someone's idea of reducing keybinding clutter. Because you can switch between grenades and not trip cooldown, so it'd be no different than having multiple keys.

I was wondering about this too. I was assuming there'd be more equipment but that doesn't seem to be the case now? And they don't share cooldowns. I find it hard to believe it's for balancing reasons that they don't want you to be able to shoot both in succession.

It adds only one extra button to press if you've had separate hotkeys.
Now you have to press two buttons if you want to toss a different grenade.
How is that a clutter reduction even?

...this is a good question I never thought to ask.

I suppose my brain accepted a dedicated nade button and a toggle because it somehow felt more natural than two different nade buttons among flame, sword, and chainsaw. Maybe they found that most people think that way and decided to toggle.

Also it's one less cool-down to display on the HUD at a given time.

Actually, I just rebinded Change Nade to Mouse Scroll down and rebind throw on a extra button near my left click

It also helps that my gaming mouse has like... 10+ buttons

Yes. This. One more button click might not sound like much, but this game has so much to keep track of that that extra prompt has gotten me killed several times. Extra difficulty should never come from controls... Especially since they actually don't share cooldowns.

I have a suspicion that during the development, there were three modes: Frag grenade, ice grenade and flame belch. Then flame belch was assigned to a separate key but developers forgot to do the same for frag and ice grenades.

The scroll wheel is a good button to use for grenade swap, assuming you don't use it to switch weapons.

Yeah coz I'd use weapon binds instead of that. Faster that way.
