PSA: The MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner FPS meter drops framerate by 40%

I just noticed this last night. Having the on-screen display of the FPS meter using MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner was dropping my average framerate from around 140 to 70 fps.

So if you are using this program, make sure you turn off the on-screen display for better performance. The game is running so much smoother for me now.

I know your point and its true from what i hear that Riva osd lowers performance.. So are you using the steam counter to see fps after disabling riva osd.. If no then how do you know how much performance you gaining after? I use steam counter with no issue.. then i though to myself maybe i get better performance without the steam counter.....but how would i measure? lol.

I'm not sure what you're asking. I am using the game's FPS counter. When I turn on the MSI Afterburner FPS counter, my framerate goes down to 70. When I turn it off, it goes up to 140.

The MSI afterburner overlay doesn't even work for me. It's strange though, because it works when the game opens and shows the Bethesda/Id software logos, but then it disappears when you get onto the main menu

Okay i had the same problem figuring out what you were saying. MSI fps counter never has worked for me in this game. Didnt lower performance just didnt display on screen for me. So MSI OSD works for you just lowers performance. got it. Yeah i know sometimes these things are hard to explain via text. Thanks for your info.
