Why do i lose my life, even when i reload checkpoint?

This makes no sense at all.. If i had the life at checkpoint, and i lose it during a fight, but stop and reload checkpoint i should be able to try agin with the life.. Makes no sense that its gone when at checkpoint i had it.

I wondered this same thing as well but I think it's to prevent scumming. Besides, at Mission Select, you can harvest all the 1UPs you want, due to keeping collectibles but not challenge progress. I went back to Hell on Earth to find the last toy for the collection and collected about three 1UPs along the way. Those carried over when I quit out and went back to the campaign.

Oh wait really?? I didnt know they carried over....

As you loose them you loose them, but, you can replay missions just to collect a bunch of 1ups, or you can restart a level, as is you had just started, loos all p/u obtained, but start with all the 1ups you had to start with.
