No, you have to focus on his dumb dog while you kill everything else so that afterwards you can stand around and wait (in a game that explicitly tells you to move in combat) for him to drop his shield. How exciting.
It´s not like the rest of the game, where you are this powerhouse that can just mowe down everyone.
He is untraditional and yes, some of his moves are lazy and cheesy , the hounds for example are badly designed and even lack proper animations sometimes, but I know what the devs were trying to do. Maybe remove the garbage that he is capable of blocking BFG shots or missiles from up front or at least give him like 50% - 75% of the BFG shot damage. At least give me another way to fight him other than wait for his attack and then pump his ass full of shotgun ammo or ballista shots.
I also feel like he should have some extra opening, like shooting his shield with the plasma rifle to cause an energy-surge explosion or something. But reprogramming and enemy like this would probably take a lot of work, so I doubt they'll change him all that much if they decided to.
My biggest gripe with him though is that his shield is literally a freeby. You ever tried to BFG him? It doesn't work. Same goes for Unmaykr and Crucible. You're basically limited to shotgun, plasma gun, ballista, and super shottie since any other projectile weapon like rockets is blocked too.
Really sad that they took such a great concept and made him a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bullet sponge that just requires you to stun him with super shottie, meat hook to him for armor with the burning hook, shoot him again, then on the next cycle flame belch again after stun to keep your health high.
The combat in this game is like a fast paced chess game, it's not enough to just be fast on your feet and good aim, you have to know which enemies to prioritize and what weapons work best against them and the situation your in all the while managing your resources on the fly. Marauders are more like a mobile obstacle than an enemy as they are designed to make that combat loop harder to pull off. The best way I've been able to handle them is to just try to ignore them altogether until you've cleared most of the other major threats. Their ax throws aren't bad to dodge, the dog is kind of annoying but can be blown away all the same.
They destroy the flow of combat way too much.
