Laptop that can run Doom Eternal?
Hello all. I am still on the laptop that I used to play Doom 2016. It ran 2016 quite nicely at well over 60FPS. Unfortunately, Doom Eternal is rolling at around 40FPS, and plummets when I use ice grenades etc.

Anyone here playing Doom Eternal on a laptop, and it is performing well? Not looking for a 1000 FPS requirement, just well above 60 FPS even with arenas filled with demons would be great. I read iD does not officially support laptops for Doom Eternal, so I do not want to risk getting one that cannot run the game. Any proven laptops someone can recommend?

Thank you!

Biggest tip i can give is turning steam overlay off. Some reason it completely ♥♥♥♥♥ ur fps. I went from averaging 80 to 120 and my cpu is just under spec also. Ask if you cant work out how to disable. Theres an ingame fps counter too.

I've a HP Omen that runs just fine, theres a number of different models though, and I dont even know if that brand still is continued (its not old though)

Thanks so much for that. I recently also bought an Acer Nitro 5, actually. Was totally hoping it would work, but the framerate was still really poor on my end. When I use the AMD control panel, it says:

Doom Eternal Game Compatibility:
Radeon RX 560X Series (Does not meet minimum requirements)
AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (Meets minimum requirement)

Is that the same specs as your machine? I wonder if there are any steps I have missed? Downloaded the latest drivers last night before running the game.

Thank you :).

oh snap, guess it's a good thing i didn't go for the amd variant of the nitro 5. i have the model packing a gtx 1050. about $700. that sucks dude, got the wrong one.

I have a Lenovo Y740 17inch and I get 144 almost all the time. Lowest it ever dips to is around 90 and that is incredibly rare

Thanks guys this is all a big help. Yeah, I did turn the Steam overlay off, and I think it helped a little. I also read playing in Windowed Mode helps. Maybe I will try that. Probably won't help much.

I mean, even with everything set to the lowest on my current laptop (not the Acer 5), it says something like I have 2200VRAM, but 2800VRAM is needed. I can still play the game, but clearly it is trying to tell me my machine is not up to far.

With my Acer 5, I have 8000+ of VRAM, yet the game seems to perform even worse than my other laptop. I only bought this Acer5 last year to showcase in exhibitions and have rarely used it.

i though the vega was equal to the 10-series gtx myself. but with amd laptops they typically use an apu. apu's are considerably slower on the whole than individual high performance components.

steam overlay kills your fps, i was getting frame drops too and i got a gtx 1080 and an i7 but with the steam overlay off you get 30 plus frames. and disable any other overlays like nvidia shadowplay or msi after burner, something to do with the vulkan not liking them

I have the Acer Predator Helios 300. Just under $1000.

It runs DE very well with most video settings on ultra nightmare.

FPS ranges from 50-70 most of the time. I may have to tweak a few things here and there since I’m entering areas/arenas that are visually more complex and noticed FPS drop into the mid 30’s in those places.

Overall, it’s really good and well worth the price. DE is the only game where I can’t run it with all video settings turned all the way up. For example, I play a lot of Quake Champions, I always have 80-144fps with video settings in ultra.

Thanks BonerMagik. Cost efficient options are always welcome. I am totally cool with running on below Ultra Nightmare if it means a higher FPS. It is just such a bummer playing the game on slow mo right now. If you turn down the settings, are you able to stay above 60 even during arena fights with tons of demons?

Is it this laptop? https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Notebooks/Gaming-Notebooks/77023-NH.Q53SA.006-C77?gclid=Cj0KCQjw9tbzBRDVARIsAMBplx85bAQQTZqysrucwc4plHBm6-1jzqOpdgFrAF7l7taofej8dWBBOisaAomdEALw_wcB

Im running it on an aspire v 17 nitro acer laptop with a 1060, i7-7700k and 8 gb ram and was getting really terrible fps on everything low on 1080p native, around 45 fps on average with drops to 25 when it got intense.
Now turned the steam overlay off and it makes an astonishing difference, i have yet to drop below 60fps even when the screen is packed with demons and explosions.
Haven´t been messing with any settings because i was not expecting any improvements so its all still on low/off but firstly i think i can get some settings up without any problems and second, the game still looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ beautiful.
InvertMouse 2020 年 3 月 21 日 下午 2:29
You just uncheck Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game box to do this, yeah? Dang Spectre, I wish I had your experience! I am on 45 fps average too, but even with overlay off, seems to be about the same.
